The speed test in SYSINFO shows my A4000/030 to be considerably slower than my A1200 with Blizzard 1230 .

Does this make any sense ?

Both machines are at 50Mhz and both with a 030 processor .

The rating for the A4000 is "Cowabunga"
The rating for the A1200 is ">>>Acceleration"

A4000/030

Dhrystones    4318
CPU MIPS      4.50
Chip Vs A600  6.00

A1200 w/Blizzard 1230

Dhrystones      9485
CPU MIPS        9.90
Chip Vs A600    6.75

There must be something wrong with the A4000

the A4000/030 is a 25 MHz

There is a Blizzard 030 @ 50mhz methinks.. for the 4000, not stock issue though..

have you tried "whichamiga" to check your specs out?

a standart A4000/030 can't be 50 MHz. The only 030/50 MHz board for the A4000 is the blizzard 4030. IF you haven't bought that board, your A4000 is 25 MHz regardless of what sysinfo tells you.

It makes sense to me if you have a Blizzard 4030/50Mhz
in your A4000 and it's slower then the Blizzard 1230IV/50Mhz.
The difference is the faster memory access of the Blizzard 1230IV (with RAM) compared to the slow motherboard memory access of the Blizzard 4030 (with no RAM).
I know because I owned an A4000 with Blizzard 4030/50Mhz.

I dont believe i have any accelerators in my A4000 although the person who sold it to me says it has .

If it does have , would it be a card (which it does not have) , or would it be on the CPU card ?

I tried Whichamiga , but it keeps crashing for me .

I guess the best thing would be to open it up and look at the cpu i guess .

If it makes any difference , the A1200 has 64mb ram and the A4000 has 16 .

Your A4000 must have an accelerator card, otherwise it wouldn't run. There's no CPU on the motherboard.
(except the revision D motherboard)

That makes no difference. Like I stated before;
The 1230/50Mhz has fast memory on board and the 4030/50Mhz has not.

B1230 IV is faster than a A3630.

Like the others already said, the onboard "Fast"RAM on the A4000 is quite slow.

Only with an A3640 you may take out a B1230 IV, but the RAM speed still keeps still lame, you probably have to buy a CPU Card which provides extra RAM.

Shame despide having a blizzard it is still slower ..

Sorry for sounding like such a newbie here , its just that i have abs no experience whatsoever with the A4000 as i only recently bought it and didnt have much time to mess around with it .

The problem with the Blizzard 4030 is the memory isn't fitted on the Blizzard card. The memory on the mother board is always slower.

Most other accelerator cards for A4000 has memory slots on it, that will make the accelerator card on the A4000 faster.
