A500 and A500+ differences
« on: August 19, 2007, 05:05:25 PM »
Basically what I want to do is put a 1.3 ROM chip into an A500+ so I can have a KS1.3 system with a full 2mb chip RAM (1mb onboard and 1mb in the trapdoor) and I'm wondering if it'll all work as it should...

If it won't work, can you tell me what part of it stops it from working and why.
Back to action!

Not sure whether 1.3 checks for 2 MB chip RAM, but you could easily AddMem it - dunno any reason why 1.3 shouldn't work.

But /me thinks you can have some issues with the ECS chipset when trying to run some old games...

 Just my 2 cents...
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

There shouldn't be any issues with it.  the extra RAM won't make a game crash, might speed it up a bit.

It will work. I have an a500 which is a500+ mobo inside. Of course when i bought it it has 1.3 kick and 512k ram only. (So if commodore could do you can too.)

I added +512 ram, so with trapdoor expansion i had 1,5MB chip. I added a kickstar switcher also. I think you should go for it too.
The only problem was some games (1 or 2) and some demos crashed because i had more than 1Mb ram. (or they searching for shadow/slow fast ram ram but can't find it of course)

Amiga 500: 68030@14MHz/68882@40MHz/ 5.5MB RAM/80MB HDD/Delfina FE Sound card/Kickstart 3.1/OS 3.1

Macmini 10,1 PPC 1.58GHz, 1GB Ram, 80GB HDD 5400rpm, Ati Radeon 9200/32MB, , MorphOs 3.1

PowerBook 15" PPC 1.67GHz, 2GB Ram, 250GB HDD, ATI 9700/128MB, MorphOS 3.1

Some old games which require kick 1.3 would run withought any problem. But a few OCS only game would still refuse to run.

Should be much more compitable with classic ocs games when using kickstart 1.3 instead of 2.x.
I did the same with my a600, and it handled nearly all classic games after swapping the kickstart.

why downgrade it, you can easily softkick 1.3 it takes up only 256Kb of RAM. my brother successfully ran SuperCars2 with it (SKick IIRC)
otherwise, at least get a kickstart switch
Better sorry than worry.
