CD32 PRO on ebay?
« on: January 20, 2007, 03:40:48 PM »
Just noticed this CD32 on ebay, the seller seems to know very little about it. Anyone think it might be a CD32 Pro or maybe just a plain SX-32?

Is it just me or is something kinda strange with this listing?
I'm not saying this isn't legitimate, the guy seems to have a lot of positive feedback.

Anyone know where "Naptown, USA" is?

Also, are those screen shots from CD32 or CDTV?

It's a nickname for Indianapolis.

I haven't been to Naptown, but if I had to guess I'd say it's near Beer City, which is what my ePay listings say.  Or, at least they used to.  I think I changed it since.

I have never seen a CDTV, and I don't remember what that screen looked like on a CD32.  In any case, any program from a CDTV could theoretically be run on a CD32.

The screenshots are of the CD32 embedded CD player.

They *look* like a CDTV.  But, assuming the CD player in the CDTV is a program, there's no reason you couldn't run that program on the CD32.  So, it still could be a CD32 generating that image.

Maybe someone liked the CDTV program better and installed it instead of the CD32 one?

Maybe someone installed the wrong software?

Maybe the seller screwed up but they are still selling a CD32?

Maybe someone should just ask the seller?

@TheMud @AMC258

I don't understand the confusion? I own 4 CD32 machines and they all display the same CD player graphics as shown in these pictures. This CD graphical interface is already built into the CD32 firmware and appears once an audio CD is poped into the machine.

Then there is nothing to be confused about.  The screenshots are genuine CD32 ones.

No, they're not:
CDTV CD player.
CD32 CD player.
Linked from Greg Donner's excellent Workbench website. =)

I would say its a standard sx-32. Every pro including mine I have seen has the sx-32 PRO clearly printed at the bottom of the expansion under the ports on the back.

Odin, thanks for the links to the pictures on Greg's site. I think that pretty much sums up the CD32 vs. CDTV debate. I would say it's very likely that the seller is legitimate.

I was curious about what the CDTV CD player screen looked like as I hadn't see it in about a year. I went down to my storage facility to get out my CDTV, unfortunately I couldn't get in because the lock and the door was frozen.  :boohoo:
