Exterminating WindoxXP
« on: September 01, 2005, 11:55:39 AM »
I currently have a partioned hard drive on my laptop, with both XP and Linux Suse 9.1. I want to remove XP completely and replace 9.1 with 9.3, which I have just purchased.
What is the best way of banishing XP while also ensuring the whole hard drive is given over to Suse 9.3?

Do you want to keep your current Suse installation?  If not, back everything you need up, delete all partitions, and install 9.3.

To tell the truth, I don't think there is anything on my laptop I want to keep. I brought it for uni and besides a bit of playing around on it, I have done nothing serious which I want keeping. I couldn't see much point using it until I got to uni.

How do I delete the partition? When I install 9.3, how can I be sure XP will not still be on there?

Well,  if there is nothing you want to keep on either partition,   then I would do a clean install of Linux.

Most good installations programs will give you options for setting up/changing the partitioning scheme  used (Did that in my Centos 4.1 & Solaris 10 installs ) ...  This will wipe out the partitions and create a new partition to your standards.

just my $.02 on the matter,

Thanks, I did exactly that. It was easy. I just followed the chose the approximate options during installation. Problem solved.
