Default Filenames - Win98 to Amiga OS3.9

I'm trying to transfer an HTML instruction manual from a PeeCee to run with IBrowse. That way I can read the instructions while I fiddle with the kit on the PeeCee. It's the only practical way to do it, eh?

I have a Catweasel, which makes using PeeCee floppy disks a doddle. Anyway, when I copy the files, those having long filenames get truncated under OS3.9 and the HTML code doesn't run properly.

How do I get my Amiga to label the files correctly when copied? I can manually rename them correctly, so how do I do it automatically?

See, told you I was dumb!

Cheers,

JaX

The filesystem is the problem, presumably an old version of CrossDOS which can handle only DOS 8+3 filenames. Either get a newer version (commercial) or use Fat95 instead (free, on Aminet) to get the full Windows filenames.

If you want to stick with the old version of CrossDOS there are a couple of progs that will copy the files off the disk and restore the full filename:

dos2amiga

filename95

Easy peasy.

As well as what Kenny posted above. Also note that Amiga filenames can't be as long as Windows filenames. It depends on the file system, but IIRC the maximum is always 107 characters. FFS is much lower, something like 30 characters.
