Default Bvision Problem - Missing connector

Hi guys,

I've managed to secure a Bvision for my Amiga-in-a-Sparc-Box project, and as such am now back into Amigas (again...)

My problem is the bvision I have is missing the vga socket daughterboard connector thingy as seen here:

http://www.amigasuperbit.com/catalogindexsp/it020006.jpg

I've just got the bvision with a ribbon cable (and of course the BlizzPPC to connect it to)

Am I now stuck ? or is there a way to build or purchase the vga bit ? I'm good with a solding iron an can build most projects.

All help appreciated.

- Jaruzel

Only thing I can think of is if someone has a dead BVis. I have no idea if those little bits of PCB are some standard piece of hardware or if it's a Phase5 specific invention (though it seems logical if it is).

The connector sure doesn't look anything special here. Just an 10 pin IDC connector, sheilded ribbon cable going to a VGA connector.

Im sure there'll be a schematic online somewhere.

I do have a dead bvision - but unfortunately I don't have a spare ribbon (my working bvision is using it).

-edit-

Corrected number of pins ;-)

Cheers Karlos - any chance of a close up pic of the vga connector board?

I've done the usual searches for bvision stuff (although not aminet yet) and haven't come up with anything useful.

I have a scan doubler board currently plugged into my DB23 which has a vga connector and that takes a ribbon from the scan doubler chip thats plugged onto the amiga mb, and I'm wondering if i can just feed the bvision ribbon into that ?

I'm seriously hoping i'm not up sh*t creek with this one.

Aww, bugger - no camera, unfortunatley :-(

I can't see (looking at it) that there are any additional components on the VGA connector end, just the ribbon attaching to the VGA socket. So I guess the only trick is to make sure the correct pins in the VGA socket are matched up with the BVision connector end.

There must be a few people with dead bvisions (as already said) who can donate a cable...

@Jaruzel

I'm getting a BVision one of the next days, so if you drop me a mail I can take some shots of it and send them to you.

Should be rather easy to make a schematic of the connector as well, but that might take some time.

Hi Jaruzel

i have here the one of the CVPPC and it seems the same.

It is not so easy to built a new one.

It has 3 transistors (VGA part only) and theyrs capacitor, resistor for RGB analogic output all micro SMD.

Don't know how to help you.

Ciao

EDIT- yes it is the same of the CVPPC

That's strange. There are no additional components of any kind on my BVision VGA connector that I can see.

@ Karlos

so the above posted picture is wrong.

mhhh!!! BVision is DCE only?

EDIT- if the cable hasn't additional component, it isn't a great problem to make one.

No picture needed but only pins assignment.

Perhaps there are different revisions. I just opened my system and examined the cable. No components other than the cable connector on a tiny PCB that simply attaches it to the VGA on a backplane. Nothing else.

Pretty much what I was thinking ;-)

-edit-

Incidentally it's a 10-way IDC connector - not an 8-way one like I said earlier ;-)

At least my Eyetech monitor switchers do use similar IDC10 to VGA adapters. So they must be quite common parts.

I have aBVisionPPC from P5 and one from DCE. The DCE one just ist a plain cable to VGAconnector adapter. The P5 one holds additional parts but has in opposition to the later DCE version a connector for an LCD shutter goggle. So I assume those additional resistors and capacitors are only need for this extra connector or just to improve outputquality (and DCE skipped them for cutting costs).

I had a CVPPC and it was just a bable as well. I even had to make a
rplacement copy of it once. Just match up the leads and its all you
need.
