This doesn't need to be said really. But why?!
Who are these bottom-feeders who litter newsgroups with their {bleep} messages? I have seen one email "My girlfriend pokeing herself with a carrot" hundreds of times these last few days. The ignorant {bleep}ers can't even spell 'poking' correctly. And if my boyfriend put pictures of me on the internet 'pokeing myself with a carrot' I'd deliver a swift kick to his nether regions and not go out with him again (yes I know the subject of the email is not true to life,lol) And besides, if I was a girl, I'd probably not 'poke myself with a carrot' in any case. And another thing, spam! I get an email every day offering me codine over the internet, and other such dubious crap. Don't the spammers know that a .uk email address implies that the user lives in the uk, and hence these dubious sources of drugs would be no use in any case? I get so many emails with offers (anything from Viagra to e-books) available only in the US, yet they're sent to my .uk email address. Oh and another email I get every day, "Every one of our girls swallows". Really? Well I should hope so! Otherwise eating would be rather difficult. Who are these scum who ruin the internet for everyone? Or am I in a minority? Perhaps everyone else is worried that their penis is too small, has a prescription drug habit and is a chauvinist who likes to see pictures of women being degraded?

You're not the only one who has this kind of problems :-(
I know people who had to abandon/close their favourite e-mail box because of this INet plague. ________ Risk Equalization Forum Last edited by Cass; 03-18-2011 at 04:24 PM.. |

Oh, running a small online services company that maybe some of Amiga.org's readers are familiar with I get tonnes and tonnes of spam. Thousands every day. I really should reactivate spamassassin when I get the time and can get it to not be overzealous and remove valid emails (probably my fault in the first place).
I think that all spammers should be taken outside and shot in the nether regions and then made to bathe in oversaturated salty chilli-water. |

@cyberus
Spammers are paradoxical. The best I can tell it that they have no interest in what the address is or if it is even valid. They either get paid by the amount of ads they send, or how many people respond. The second one is more logical for the people who pay them to spam, so that's probably it. If spammers cared about valid addresses, they wouldn't be sending emails with spoofed return addresses. They avoid complaints that way and since they also don't get any "this address does not exist", it can only be assumed that they don't care about valid addresses. Email is free to send, so sending a billion emails costs them nothing and is probably only one click on their computer. I'm sure that these fake "click here to remove from our list" things are just a way to get you to respond so they can get paid. Your address is already on their list. They don't want to confirm your address is valid, they just want you to respond for their billing records. Ten percent of people respond/buy from spam and ten percent of a billion is quite a lot. The only real way to get rid of these punks is to go after the people they spam for. But, those guys are probably not too honest either and will just move to a different motel to work out of if anyone investigates. |

yeah the 'remove me' links are only there to confirm to them that your email address is active apparently. never click it! I made that mistake a couple of times

Am I the only person whoe doesn't let spam drive me up the walls? Sure the stuff annoys me, and I'm more than slightly concerned about this crap being sent to minors, but I can usually figure out what is spam by visually inspecting the subject line and from line. Most of the spam is instantly detectable, and is instantly deletable. If I accidently delete a legitimate email, it is probably because they didn't know me well enough or I didn't know them well enough. In that case, I probably didn't want to talk to them anyway. If I view something which is spam, well, my email reader doesn't display images or formatting so most of the stuff is invisible and deletable. Manually filtering probably averages out to a second an email, spread across thirty emails per day. Heck, it takes me longer to toss flyers (ie. spam in my snail mail box).
What really drives me up the walls are these anti-spam fascists, who think it is their purpose in life to filter out 'spam' for other people. They are the ones which leave me wondering: did my email get to my friend? (I cannot email from my own machine at this point. I have to ssh into another account!) Or, if I haven't heard from somebody in a while, is somebody filtering them out.
