Default Operation Northwoods

This is a little old but I'm guessing (from the apparent ignorance) that many people here are not aware just to what lengths a supposedly democratic government will go to in order to justify the illegal invasion of another sovereign country.

If you have never heard of this, the following makes for astonishing reading:
http://www.prisonplanet.com/northwoods.pdf

It's a little dull until about page seven or eight, where the authors (who happen to be the US joint chiefs of Staff) elaborate on possible pretexts for an invasion of Cuba.

These include such noble ideas as killing US citizens and blaming Cuba, etc, etc...
Well worth a read.

Some further information can be found here:
http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/jointchiefs_010501.html

and here:
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/northwoods.html

Happy reading folks...

I've gotta say, I don't support communism or dictatorships, but for some reason I've got a soft spot for Fidel Castro, and I can't explain why.

Heheh - I know what you mean. :-)
Can't quite put my finger on what it is...

Still, the Joint Chiefs of Staff obviously had other ideas.
Killing your own people, in order to drum up an excuse to invade?

Perhaps because he's a somewhat amateur-dictator? He's not the most evil man the world has ever seen.

That, and he's isolated on an island with his own people. Hardly a threat to anyone I would say (which explains the need to create such an extreme pretext for war).

I think Canada's policy on Cuba is the correct one, and there's a good chance if Florida wasn't such a screwed up state the US would be a bit more open about it as well.
