...No it's not here yet, but it has been hinted by one of the
Frieden brothers on the AOS4 mailing list, that info will be put up on os.amiga.com in just a few days. This is eagerly awaited; I need to start put my tower together to home my future AONE-XE-G4! (Now don't put this up as news or anything, it's a *hint* (not even an announcment) of an announcment after all...:-)) -added- For now, GGS-data in Sweden has published a list (supposedly by their own initiative) of gfx-cards working on the AmigaOne: Extracts, translated from Swedish: OS tested: SusePPC 7.3 on AmigaOne, in X (GUI for Linux) Voodoo 3 3000 16MB PCI, works excellently in all modes and colour depths. Voodoo 4 4500 32MB PCI, works excellently in 8bit screen modes. His Excalibur Radeon 7000 64MB SDR, works excellently in 8bit up to 1024x768 with framebufferdisplay. Sapphire Radeon 9000 Atlantis 128MB DDR, in 8bit up to 1024x768 with framebufferdisplay. see below comment from Bill Toner though Sapphire Radeon 9000 Atlantis Pro 128MB DDR, in 8bit up to 1024x768 with framebufferdisplay. see below comment from Bill Toner though So far they have found no problems with any brand of CD-ROM/DVD drives. What of this is actually going to work with AOS4 is anybody's guess though...:-/ ... until os.amiga.com is updated that is! GGS-Datas nyhetssida . SlimJim |

Silly boy. you KNOW certain elements of the 'community' never bother to read beyond the title !
I'll keep an eye out - the race is on for the 1st person to post the news item !!

I have this CanoScan flatbed scanner. I don't even want to think about how long it's take before that is supported...

Canoscan ... proprietary Canon scanning protocol. It will most likely never be supported.
I have a 1200U, nice paperweight under Linux. |

CanoScan N670U here... It's very good, but linux drivers is
not all that developed. I think it's coming though, if you take a look at google, there is a page where Canoscan drivers are noted as beta, but almost fully usable. For now I have to keep a copy of Windows around to use the damn thing. I think you are right that support for AOS is far, far in the future indeed. . SlimJIm |

Keep in mind that while the Radeon 9000 series may work in Linux, there are no guarantees that the AmigaOS driver will support it for a while. Our documentation from ATI was given to us before the 9xxx family was announced, and so does not include any differences we need to deal with on the newer cards.
We've mentioned this before, but again, until ATI makes updated documentation available, we at Forefront Technologies Inc. recommend avoiding Radeon 9xxx models intended for use under AmigaOS, until we are able to ensure they work with our driver. If someone tries a 9xxx model and it happens to work, that's neat, but will be unsupported until we have proper documentation allowing us to fix compatibility issues with the newer Radeon chips. Someone had mentioned in another forum that the Radeon 9100 (I think that's the right one) is a renamed Radeon 8500 card. While this may be true, we have not yet confirmed it, and recommend avoiding it as well until it is confirmed and we officially support it. As some have mentioned their local PC stores no longer carry 8500 models, we will check into this. This of course shouldn't matter to people wanting to only run Linux PPC and not use AmigaOS, as we are not involved with Linux drivers at all.

Thanks for the reply!
Are we thus to understand that all ATI Radeons up to (but not including) the 9000 series are to be supported in AOS4? And if so, will they be supported right from the start? This greatly influences my choice in hardware for my (for now) linux-AmigaONE. (this is news for me at least.) . SlimJim |

Let's hope ATI get their heads out of their arses soon and start handing out some documentation, then :-D

I'm still waiting for os4 all ready to fire up.
in the meantime all this speculation borders the rhetorical without waynes personal verdict upon release, plus a favorable review, i aint buying nothing!! i keep my head-breaking for using my toys to produce creative art, not assembling them like a puzzle your'e not sure contains all the bits and pieces.... as a relatively unskilled hardware installer- that would be putting serious conditons on my condition! ;-) no thanks, i will wait a bit more if it will ensure a soundly functional product ;-) |

AFAIK noone has ATI docs beyond ATI 8500. On the pegasos many used 9000s and had problems, which had been fixed in the MOS drivers - but despite that 9000s works, it's still not officially supported. However, I have to point out the same as it has been told before, ATI cards prior the 9xxx serie have vanished from most stores (at least in certain countries). It seems I may lay my hands on a 8500, but even that will be an LE version... Hope the supported GFX cards range will soon be expanded for both AmigaONE/Pegasos...
