I'm sure iamboringperson will be overjoyed. :-P

But mp3 sharing is only an interim solution. Unless capitalism comes up with a better way of making money out of digital data than uselessly threatening anyone who (easily) duplicates it, the music industry will die. So will the software industry, for that matter.

The music industry won't die, just the freeloaders. Almost all of the working musicians today still make their money the way they did before "the industry". By playing music in front of an audience. Buy a CD and they don't usually see much of the money. The real money for almost all but the biggest bands is still in touring, just as it's always been. For the most part CD's are just a promotional tool. The bands don't do shows to promote the album. They do the albums to promote the shows.

The part of the music business that will die is the racket in which certain people make money simply by having the legal right to forbid other people to make copies of certain recordings. The sooner we get rid of those people then the sooner the people doing actual work will get paid for it.
