I was reading up on this earlier. Looking at the features, a lot of them are what I'd expect from a PDA. Always-available annotation for example. It doesn't look as slick as a Palm or Windows PDA, but if it does the task well!

Hopefully some of the features will make it into western PDAs.

I want one....

I don't know what's cooler:
1. it's INDIAN!
2. the name!
3. the motion detecter
4. the fact that it doesn't run winderz.
5. the 'teenager' in the gallery section! ....HOTTIE.....
It looks like a very cool handheld, and I wish this company good fortune this endeavour!!

I looked over the Simputer a few years back. I could design better for cheaper.

I'd rather buy a tapwave Zodiac for $299 than an Indian organiser for the poor at $240. You've obviously never been forced to use Indian software either or you'd know better than to be excited by this.

I agree with BigBenAussie + downix

Sounds like they ripped the name off the amiga heh, the model numbers look familiar too :-P

There are better pdas for around the same if not cheaper... They also look alot more attractive, and for a pda you dont want a 'pissy garage os', i'd rather stick to CE and/or PALMOS regardless of who wrote them for the sake of compatibility + I know they've been optimised to work with arm/dragonball VZ processors

Not being racist, I have alot of fijian-indian friends, and in fact a few cousins that are married to them... But i've used *alot* of indian software for the palm/pocket pc (was forced mainly), as well as some desktop 'remote administration' software, instant messaging and accounting software. They all sucked, most had next-to-no error trapping and were prone to buffer-overflows/overruns. Cant complain about the food though heh

...and I know I cant judge all software by using just a handful of duds; quite a big handful though :-P And for the record I'm arab (syrian), and i'll agree that arabic software sucks the same if not more - But its because the US take all our good programmers :-D lol

(no offence intended anywhere in this post)

Hum,
Nice bit of kit that...
Er, in a `star-trek like` sort of way.
Though, I can see that this will face STIFF competition. But, it looks like it`ll be a `cult` classic for future geeks.

Now, I wounder if you could run UAE on it,
and scratch off that `d`...

BTW, i thought nowadays ,most of the work on corporate projects come from programmers in the third world countries or russia...(budgets?)

Really nice thing. Would be nice if it could run AmigaOS4 or MorphOS

>Cheap

Hello
Perhaps they should use the future paper CPU (T-Ink) or paper display (from e-ink). In Taiwan low end PDAs are sold less than US$ 100. Several DragonBall CPU are derived from 68k. There is a MIT PDA project with coldfire, but apparently never materialized. Perhaps someday AmigaDE will run on top of Amida.

>Indian Software.
Most software firm (Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, SAP, PeopleSoft) and major companies (AT&T, GE, GM, Ford, Motorola) have software development centres in India. Motorola India and Tata (Bangalore) had received 5 star qualification (best of the best) from US / European Computer/IT magazines.

Perhaps you don't realize it, but you may use software from India on your everyday life/business: Billing, Medical Equipments, Cars, etc.

some strange responses to my post???

this thing exists
it runs linux
200Mhz
its not really a pda its a full blown computer with a "little" screen - the thing is marketed by the Indian government and is aimed at the poor in India. does anyone realize how many poor Indian people there are. this thing is gonna be dirt cheep!

i see no reason why it cant run anything that ppl want it to run.

StromARM AROS anyone?

because its indian its sub-standard? are you mad? wake up from the illusion.

thanks for replies btw :-)
