I'm having the worst luck getting my x-surf II to work in my A1200. Whenever the BPPC is connected and enabled, I cannot pass the xsurftest, and I cannot open the xsurf.device. Yank out the BPPC (or disable it by holding down "2" during boot) and xsurftest passes fine.
I've tried two different, perfectly working motherboards (1.d1 and 1.d4) and two busboards (ZIV and Micronic), it's the same thing with both. I've tried all zorro slots, and all jumper settings on the busboards. Everything else works like a charm. The card itself just came back from Jens, and it tests fine in his lab. I've also tried two power supplies (both using the original connector on the mobo and connectors on the busboards), so I don't think it's the power. Even plugged in the floppy power connector and took the power for the BPPC fan from the PSU. So what can I do about the BPPC screwing things up? Some blizkick module? Setpatch thing? Is it just not meant to work for me?

I have a single ide HD and CD-ROM connected. Booting is not a problem; only when I try to open the x-surf device or run the xsurftest program that things go sour.
I'm running OS 3.9 BB2, and things are otherwise nice and dandy. GLQuake runs ok (I have BPPC+BVision by the way), the machine can run for hours without any problems. The one other problem I have is that WHDLoad also refuses to run 99% of the games when the BPPC is enabled. But I would really like to get the X-Surf working, since I paid good money for it and kind of bought the ZIV to fix the problem (Jens said that the Micronik busboard was a prime suspect in this, but getting the ZIV did not help..) |

@ECO
edit your startup-sequence C:BPPCFix install >NIL: C:SetPatch QUIET Jens last I checked doesn't even own a copy of 3.9 Kgrach you also might want to check and rename the romupdate in Devs for a time to see if that fixes your problem. |

I'm currently using BlizKick's bppcfix module to remove the ppc.library before booting to OS 3.9, and I'm already running setpatch too. They don't affect the failure of the xsurftest at all (it can be run even if I boot without a startup-sequence).
I'll try renaming the romupdate, but right now I must go to work ![]() |

Renaming the romupdate did not help, I still have the same problems after loading OS3.9.
Keep the suggestions coming, I'll try "anything"... :-D |

I tried experimenting with the settings on the BPPC boot menu, but the memory options or items in the system menu do not seem to affect my problem.
I had another idea, though. I understand it is possible to flash the BPPC firmware? Would you happen to know: - How do I see which firmware I have? - Where can I find the latest? - What are the differences between firmware versions? Thank you. |

Well, flashed the latest bios as instructed in the PPC Rulez FAQ. No effect on the problem; xsurftest still fails, genesis does not open xsurf.device. Otherwise works just fine.
Disconnected Bvision: no effect. Tried 5 different simms: no effect. Cleaned connectors with IPA and tried all slots on the current busboard (Micronik): no effect. Installed Miami and tried both xsurf.device and z2-dp8390.mni device. No dice. Wild guess: battery on the BPPC has gone bad? Can't be bothered to pry it out though, unless someone can tell me that it could have this effect. :-? |
