Default Hello

Well, after ten years without one, I finally have an Amiga 2000 again! It's currently sitting on the desk behind me, getting used far less than I would like, due to the high-pitched whine of the 1084S. I hope to find a solution to that problem soon.

My father got our A2000 back in '88. This one seems much newer, as it has the amber HD light. It's also got an '030, a larger SCSI hard drive, a second (unidentified) HD, a genlock (doubt that'll get used, it's missing the connectors), a TBC (ditto), and a Toaster 4000. Now if only I could find a Flyer card, I'd be happy

Just need to get some parts and I'll be using the Amiga again!

Give the 1084 a small knock on the back panel with your knuckles, then the whine will cease a bit. It's very annoying.. :-)

The definite solution to that is basically nowadays a scandoubler + svga monitor.. I don't know if you're willing to invest that much in the scandoubler..

Thanks, I'll have to try the "kocking" trick.

The problem is, I have two monitors set up right now, because the system came without the monitor cable. The original 1084 used the 6-pin barrel connector, which the 1084S doesn't seem to have.

Further, the 1084 is only mono, and I don't have a stereo-to-mono joining cable.

So, I have two monitors: the 1084 provides color video, and the 1084S provides black-and-white video with stereo sound.

Kinda wonky, I know...

Commodore wacky monitor cables. Might just be easiest to wire yourself a cable... I don't think DB23->DB9 cables are very common. (Though I do have one here!) I think the pinouts are available on-line, though. If not, shoot me a PM, and I can give you the pinout of mine, if you want to get that 1084S going.

Monitors can interfere with stuff, especially other nearby monitors. Perhaps part of your annoying sound is caused by having the two monitors too close together? (More likely it's from a bad solder-joint or bad high-voltage, though. Both are common problems with the old 1084 of all series.)

Anyhow, might I suggest trying a cheap pair of powered stereo speakers sitting next to your 1084 mono, instead of a 1084S? ;-)
