df0:1:2:3: problem...
« on: April 19, 2018, 03:16:30 PM »
Hi guys,

i recently bought a untested external floppy drive, power computing with a sony mpf 410 inside.
On the pcb there is only one switch with the options 0,1,2,3.
I chose 2, as i plugged it to my other external drive and the drive was spinning but nothing more than this..
Then i did something stupid! I changed the switch to 1 and since then chaos..
1.Cannot open atapi.device unit 1
2. Ituition is attempting to reset the wb screen. Please close all windows except drawers.
3.When i'm trying to test every drive in sysinfo a get a guru 800 00B task 00344608
4.Even though only the internal drive is connected, the screen is showing every drive on as df0:???? df1:???? df2:???? df3:????
5.The drive led on the A500 keyboard is always on, even if there is no floppy inside and the led of the drive is always off even if there is a floppy inside. (I have my A500 in a tower)

Any suggestions please..?

I do not know if the power supply will handle two external drives. I would check voltages to see if it took out supply voltage. I would 0nly use a self power external second drive.

Probably not too helpful but I'll just throw some ideas your way...

Since your A500 is in a tower, what are you using for a power supply?

What is your keyboard setup?

Have you checked and double-checked all of your power supply and ribbon cable connections?

I seem to remember seeing that "df0:???? df1:???? df2:???? df3:????" once many years ago, but can't remember what the cause was. Maybe it thinks your trying to change all the disks at once, so to speak. Backwards cable maybe?

I'm assuming you have a hard drive and it's booting since you can see workbench, etc.... what happens if you leave the floppy drive cable off all together? Do the symptoms change?
