amiga 4000 warpengine
« on: December 16, 2017, 11:25:59 AM »
Hi

This may sound a silly question but is it possible to use a warpengine from a 4000 machine and fit into a 3000 machine if i remove the simm sockets as they will touch the daughter board?

I never tried it as I don't have a 4040.  The simms will touch the tray and not the daughterboard..  Try it if you can.  I would bet it that it fits fine.

You may want to see if you can cut a hole in the tray to accommodate the ram since the ram access of the WE is excellent and will greatly increase performance.

If the 4040 has a jp4 like the 3040, you may be able to get around the int2 hack to use scsi.

Hi

yes i will be using a fast at card not the internal scsi as i have read that it conflicts with the 3000 scsi controller

you need to remove simmsockets and put in 2 angled sockets instead

and you need to do the INT2 hack for scsi.. (there is a jumper for INT2 that you attach to one 8520)

Or just use a saw to cut room for them - who needs floppy drives :)

Hi chucky

Do you mean the j852 jumper on the 3000 board?

I remember reading in the instruction manual that it can be fit in the 3000 with some modifications.  Best to check the manual.

Manual here: http://amiga.resource.cx/manual/WarpEngine.pdf

Apparently it will work in the A3000 with minimal fuss, but there is also a jumper "JP4" which says something about a wire clip for the 3000 version.
