Electrically, yes. However, you should note that the capacity is still below that of a battery. I made a couple of computations and the result of this was that with the battery, the clock can continue to run several months without requiring a recharge, but with the capacitor, it can only run one (or a couple of) weeks before it runs dry. IOWs, it is only an alternative if you turn on your Amiga on (at least a) weekly basis.

At a quick glance there is quite a big difference between old and new(ish) clock chips -easily 100fold.

Yes it will, but it won't last very long when you unplug and power off the Amiga its in. I tried a few and wasnt happy with them.
