Ready for the stupid and obvious question..

As AROS is compatible with AOS3.1, does that mean any of the AROS programs/devices will work on AOS? (such as this ata.device)

No they wont work out of the box! people keep forgetting about the different cpus used =) however if the software is made after OS3.1 lines a port is fairly easy.

Fantasitic news. AROS is certainly shaping up.

Slightly off topic. My mouse and keyboard stop functioning when AROS is loading (from floppy) although AROS still boots into Workbench. Anyone had the same problem that knows of a workaround?

Magic.

@ Magic-Merl

Is it a PS2 keyboard/mouse?

Yes they are PS-2. Unfortunately they have all the bells and whistles. Multiple additional buttons on the keyboard for multimedia, and many additional button on my trackball.

For the record. I have tried basic keyboard and mouse but to no avail.

I'm going to build an AROS machine. Got an old 800Mhz motherboard somewhere? Unless someone can help.

stop functioning
Does it work sometime *while* booting, but stop later?

Does pressing caps lock switch the caps lock led on/off
or doesn't it do anything? During boot? After boot?

Georg

No the keyboard LED's light up then go out during the boot process. Then the keyboard stops functioning. There is no movement from the mouse either from the instant the mouse pointer appears in the top left.

I am just itching to make that Workbench do something.

Do you have something connected to the serial port of your computer? If yes, try disconnecting that.

Also try going into the BIOS and look for settings which are related to PS2 and USB. What are they set to?

Do you have a floppy drive in that machine?

Nothing in the serial ports. USB is set to auto. There is also a setting to disable keyboard and mouse USB. If I disable these the computer doesn'y even boot beyond BIOS. Go figure?

And yes. There is a floppy in the drive.

OK. I've sorted it.

My BIOS, even when USB is disabled, locates the storage devices on my Printer/Scanner/Card reader. This in turn re-enables the USB settings in BIOS. Therefore USB is still active. Once I physically disconnected the printer, AROS booted fine from disk.

Still trying to boot from CD but that is another matter entirely.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I hope the advise, above, proves useful to someone.

Hmmm :-(

The sooner we get USB drivers the better.
