Amiga 1000 and Whdload
« on: April 25, 2017, 06:48:49 PM »
I have an Amiga 1000 running now with my ACA 500 plus.
I have it booted into 3.1 OS with whdload. Problem is the 1000 keyboard doesn't have the extra keys others do to cancel out of games other than those that use F10.

Can the games be reassigned to other keys.

Also a question on Scalos.
How do I totally disable this and just keep regular workbench interface?

You can use the QUITKEY tooltype to manually set a quit key. You need to know the key's hex code. See the WHDLoad docs for details.

Don't know about Scalos, sorry!

You might want to give more info on this.  How did it get on there in the first place?  Are you running some kind of "Workbench enhancer" pack?

I took the 4gb cf card from my 1200 and put it in the aca 500 for my 1000.
The workbench on this is Classic workbench, which has scalos enabled plus whdload.

Classic Workbench changes many other things besides Scalos.  IMHO unless you need the partition for something else, I'd wipe it and just install a fresh install of whatever Workbench version of your choosing.  Sorry I can't be of more help, but I really hate that software!

I guess check in your WBStartup folder, Startup-Sequence, and User-Startup for any programs pertaining to Scalos.  Comment those lines out and see if it goes away?  Good luck! :)

You can set the quit key in the global prefs file; this same quit key will then apply to all WHDLoad slaves, except in cases where the QuitKey tooltype is specified in the actual game or demo icon file (it won't be unless someone has set it). Edit the file S:WHDLoad.prefs and locate the QuitKey line and change the hex code to the one you'd like by referring to the keymap above. You can use Ed to do this which is included with every version of Workbench. Open a shell or equivalent and type in the following:

ed s:whdload.prefs

Make the edits and then select save from the menu. Then load a game or demo and test out your new QuitKey.

Paul, finally got aroud to trying yor suggestion.
Still doesn't work. Did a little research and found that this fix needs a 68010 processor to run this, which the A1000 does not have.

you mean your A1000 doesn't have;)  Mine has happily had a 68010 for many years now and all you have to do to get one in yours is simply buy one, take apart the top case. remove the heat shield, remove old 68000 CPU and push in the 68010...easy peezy & enjoy the 'turbo' in your 68010:)

From the icomp ACA500 wiki:

"WHDload lists the 68010 processor as a minimum requirement for using the Quit-key and return to the Amiga's Workbench. The ACA500 has special circuitry that lets you use the WHDload quit-key at any time, although you "only" have a" 68EC000 processor. This is supported by WHDload V17.2 and higher."

If yours is the plus, I doubt they would have dropped this feature. Re-check your config. :p
