Amiga 1080 schematic needed
« on: January 29, 2015, 03:48:19 AM »
Last August I brought an Amiga 1080 monitor to Ray Carlsen for repair.  In the past Ray has repaired many monitors for me and my clubs - 1701's, 1702's, 1084's, 1902's, Magnavox RGB/80's, a Sony GVM-1311Q, and even the monitor in a Commodore Educator.

However, we have run into a roadblock into getting the Amiga 1080 repaired.  Here is what Ray said --

"The [Amiga] 1080 monitor has a "no video" problem and I don't think I can do anything without a schematic. I've searched the Net without any luck. Even the places that sell schematics come up empty. Do you know anyone that may have a Commodore service manual? The monitor was made by Toshiba. Although from the outside it looks like other Commodore monitors, it's very different inside and much too complex to troubleshoot without a circuit diagram. I tried."

So there you have it.  If anyone can help us out with obtaining a 1080 schematic, let us know.

Sincerely,
Robert Bernardo

Sorry I can't help with the schematic, but that's awesome that he's able to fix all those old monitors!

Is it in the back of the 1080 manual?  Guessing not but will have a look tonight.
Bingo, found them online.

Schematics are here: http://amiga.serveftp.net/schematics.html#1084

Hope they are for the right version.

Possibly, the schematic is there (though I've never seen the back of a 1080 service manual).

Nope, no 1080 there.  I see a 1084 (among others).

I don't have the schematics for that monitor and seems to be hard to find :(
I repaired my 1402 and was surprised that the schematics was easy to find for it, so strange there ain't none for the 1080 since that monitor is a lot more popular by collectors then the 1402.

I will keep and eye out for schematics for the 1080 and ask a few friends.

My bad, But someone else has found them for you.  An update to my Amiga bookmarks required.

Go Amiga org.  Just like the old days.

No, I need the 1080 schematics, not the 1080A.  The search continues...

are the schematics in the original 1080 manual?

These come up for sale from time to time.

Ebay has one available now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amiga-1080-Monitor-user-manual-original-book-good-condition-/311267122545?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item4878f75d71

Also, there was a post another forum that listed all the capacitors for the monitor.  Will this assist you?

Link is here: http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37222&sid=ce6b9ab7b8edcd96f3da656a00cc7618

Kind regards,
George

Does not look like the schematic is going to turn up. The link above might give
you a reasonable substitute to look for.

This website seems to confirm that there is a schematic in the manual.  If there isn't one floating around on the internet, then perhaps there might be someone here who might be kind enough to scan/photograph it if that is allowed?

I have the original 1080 user's manual, the same one as in that eBay sale to which you referred.  However, the schematic would be in the 1080 *service* manual.

Because the 1080 is built by Toshiba, I don't see how the other monitors built by other different manufacturers would help in this case, i.e., each different monitor would have a different schematic and would not be anything like that of the Toshiba.
