3 ROM project from aminet
« on: September 20, 2014, 01:52:05 AM »
I've gotten 3 of these boards built using a pcb service and have a couple that I really don't need and was wondering if anyone here would take them off my hands.

I've got $25 each into the boards and would be willing to sell them for that to the first 2 people who pm me.

Also, if someone wants them pre-assembled with the sockets, chip, etc. (excluding ROMs) I would be willing to do the work and sell them for $40 each.

Also, I'm on a pilgrimage to the DFW area for a Fry's fix (HUGE electronics store!) and can pick up the 74LS32 chip required for the board and will include that also for the cost of the chip.

This ROM selector does use a DP4T switch to switch between the ROMs and I've already gotten those, but they are a bit on the big side.  Will look to see if Fry's has anything smaller.

Finally, if there is a demand for these, I can re-order more in lots of 3.

I'm not trying to make any money off these, just trying to recoup my investment and help out the Amiga community at the same time.

Well, seeing as no one here responded, guess I'll take my extras over to fleabay and see what happens.

What exactly is the 3 rom project?  A rom switcher?

yes, it's a 3 ROM switch.

Instead of using a keystroke combination it uses a mechanical switch to change between the 3 ROMs.

Not as elegant, but works perfectly.

If the switch is that large, maybe it will work better in an A2000 than an A500?
If I only had the $$$$

Actually, I've got 2 different switches that will work.

The "nicer" looking unit has a "pop in" bezel on it and measures 2.25" X 1" with a hole of 1.5" X 3/4".  That might fit in an expansion slot on the back of a 2000 or that blank space on the back of a 500 by the mouse and joystick port.

The smaller switch is more "industrial" looking.  Not near as pretty!  It measures 1.75" X .5".  It has 2 holes for mounting.  Definitely would fit on the back of a 500.

$40 is too much assembled?  Figure I've got $25 in the board, add the switch, the 74LS32, cabling and sockets, Trust me, I'm working for itty-bitty peanuts on this one!  Postage wouldn't be that much either.  At least to the US.  It doesn't weigh hardly anything.

Oh, just what our club members are looking for!  Do you have any photos of the boards and components?

Ask and ye shall receive!

Pictures for your perusal.

Note on the install.  I actually made a semi-mistake on the layout.

Did not realize the pins on the 40-pin socket were offset in the counter-clockwise position, ie pin 1 is NOT the red-striped wire, but pin 40 is the red-striped wire.  Thus I had to hand wire the 40 pins on the board instead of the 40-pin header as I had planned.  Not a huge deal, but annoying.  I could've either hand wired the 40 pins or built a "transfer" board in between which seemed rather silly, so I went to soldering!

I've corrected that error on the schematic and pcb layout, so if I make another order, I'll redo it with the pins in the proper sequence.  Live and learn.  Order supplies and figure out what I need from that!

The picture of the unit installed in in my bench tester.  It's always a bit messy!  :(

Did a bit of tweaking on the board layout adding a LOT of silkscreen info.

Surprisingly enough, cost didn't go up.

I can order fully silk-screened boards for an average cost $30 each.

Anybody interested after I part with the 2 extra boards I have now?

I think the price is quite fair. I am just dirt poor at the moment......
