Pioneer DVD-CD Stacker For A4000T
« on: April 21, 2014, 07:43:44 PM »
Hello All,

I just acquired a cheap industrial (Came from a hospital) Pioneer 720 Disc DVD-CD stacker writer (Model No DRM-7000)  for next to nothing.

Would anyone have an idea how I would get it to work on my A4000T? Before you ask it is SCSI interface! I have plug it into my A4000T via the built in 4091 SCSI controller and the A4000T see's it! And also Make CD also states it can burn to it as it see's it as a normal SCSI CD writer! But I don't have a clue how to control it! It all works and I have loaded over 500 Amiga CD's as I am typing this email! Would anyone have an idea, or have a program to get it running? I don't mind paying someone for there time to write a program to make the stacker to work on my A4000T! Would be great if someone from Australia could do it! I live in Melbourne

I have attached a picture of what the DVD-CD changer looks like! Please note how small it makes my A4000T look next to it! There is plenty of software for it on the PC, but as you know not for Amiga or Mac for that matter!

Thanks in advance,
Merv Stent

OMG!  You could hide a body inside that thing!  How much heat/noise does it make?

Two options.

Spray it black and rename it Tycho Magnetic Anomaly 1 or paint it in the style of HAL9000!

Hello All,

Would you believe the huge Pioneer DVD-CD stacker is very quiet and does not produce that much heat at all! To be honest my A4000T is much louder and produce much more heat!

Thanks in advance,
Merv Stent

I had a 6 disc model Pioneer that I got working just fine on my old A4000 that had a 4091 in it, the CD software handled it just fine.  Take a peek at the CD filesystem offerings around and you might luck out.

I had my 6 disc one running on my old BBS machine many, many moons ago without a burp, callers could change the CD remotely with the combo of the drivers/cdfs and a simple door program.

Back then it was just a matter of having the proper CD filesystem for it, but entirely unsure if the ones that supported the smaller jukebox optical boxes would support that big behemoth of yours device count wise, but I suspect it would.

AsimCDFS handles changers nicely and is the only one that does easily.  You can download the adf file for version 3.7 or 3.9 from EAB's server, and a copy may be on
http://www.the oldcomputer.com.  These use the LUN's of the device number and thus are limited to 7 discs, so the LUN must be enabled on those controllers that allow it (the 4091 & 2091 do).  One could also write individual mountlists for each unit to select it.  The DVD aspect may be an issue depending on the format as only some are recognized.

Yep, AsimCDFS was the one I used back in the day with my changer - thanks, Dan!  That name was escaping me entirely.

The issue is that that device is based on the DRM-1004 100 disc changer all 7 of which are daisy chained and I'm not sure how one selects 1 disc from the 100 each drive offers. The PDF file is not helpful on that matter.

I think the easiest would be to simply set up the drives on the bus as a CDx DOS Driver. And then use the front panel in admin mode to change discs.

I imagine it woud quite amusing if the unit generated 700 LUNs for each of the discs! And you had to setup 700 CDx DOS Driver files! LOL!

More realistic than it would genrerate only 100 LUNs. Or less.per magazine size.

Any software written would need to know the internal SCSI commands the stacker uses to change discs. This could be a a GUI where stacks of icons for each disc can be clicked on which would then be loaded in the drive and mounted on the CDx unit. Though having 7 rows of 100 gadgets would be tight!

Without this infomation you're stuck using it manually like any other hardware connected to an Amiga. Like a printer scanner, it's just a fact of Amiga life. Or, hook it up to a PC and use a SCSI Sniffer! :laugh1:

Each drive (0 through 7) can access 8 (0 through) LUN's which is not 2**8, but 8*8 or 64 LUN's.  So there must be a way of cataloging the discs and selecting each of the 100 per drive; ergo there is likely a Windows/Mac/Unix program to tell each drive to turn to "n" disc out of 100 to read.

And they are being sold on eBay for a few hundred dollars:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PIONEER-DRM-7000-700-DISK-CHANGER-FLEXLIBRARY-SYSTEM-/200942183573?pt=US_CD_DVD_Blu_Ray_Drives&hash=item2ec9166495 (Check the shipping!)

Hello All,
Yes that's right, it cost me more in shipping than the winning bid on Ebay!

Thanks in advance,
