Amiga Compatible LCDs
« on: March 14, 2014, 05:53:21 PM »
I have been reading that a number of LCD panels work fine at the 15khz modes of the Amiga even though the specs do not confirm this.  I picked an NEC LCD1970NX and it worked fine. I use them on my A4000 and A1200. I have read the the Dell U311H, SR2320L, ST2320L, ST2410, and U2410 also work well.  I was wondering if anyone could confirm whether the U2410F also is compatible?

Just a suggestion. It would be nice to make a sticky post of the known 15khz compatible LCD panels so the list could grow over time as users found more.
Any obstacle can be an opportunity, try a different perspective.

What kind of connector/adapter did you use to connect that LCD?

The Dell ST series makes the Amiga's 15Khz output look beautiful; it goes up to 1920 X 1080 and had DVI input for the Indivision & Radeon folks.

There's probably too many to make a list, you just need to look for LCD TVs not monitors.  Any TV should work with the Amiga via SCART/SVideo.

On the Amiga 4000 I have to use the silver Commodore adapter with the built in circuitry (for delay), but on the Amiga 1200 I use a regular straight through adapter that I got from Amigakit.

I prefer using actual monitors to TVs.  I have never used SCART but read somewhere the the display quality is not quite as good a regular connection.  Do the American LCD TVs have SCART connections?  I was under the impression that was a European standard. I could get an adapter box to use it, but that seems like using the Ambery AV-1.

I was under the impression that RGB to SCART was one of the best quality methods from the Amiga.  Of course if you want the best output, a CRT multisync will be the best, or an Indivision AGA to a SVGA CRT looks superb.

Amiga RGB to SCART RGB is.  People often confuse Component out (as opposed to composite) with  RGB.

What is a regular connection? Is that better than RGB signals that SCART use?

well scart can be used for composite (CVBS) or s-video, too. thats probably why some think its inferior.
Better sorry than worry.

I just bought a Dell 2001fp for $25 in ebay. It has built in circiuts for VGA, S-video, Composite RCA,  DVI, old style HDMI (the big one), and 2 USB ports on the side. This 21 inch monitor is hooked up to my A1200 RCA out, but I pllan to install the new graphx board from AmigaKit. With an Ambery scan converter you can create PIP on any computer by jacking in a feed from cable TV. Run a splitter off your line to see TV on your VGA monitor. Also does the audio to my KLH speakers.
