Last of the PCD-60B scsi card readers
« on: June 28, 2013, 03:50:49 PM »
Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know mechware is down to 31-pcd-60b card readers and when they are gone they are probably gone for good.

If you are contemplating getting one of these now may be the time.

I had 5-Pcd-47b's listed a few days ago and they sold out the same day.

My sources for more have dried up.

They can be found here:

I'm just curious as to what are the differences in products between the following:

1) PCD-47b
2) PCD-50b
3) PCD-60b

I did, though, buy 2 of the PCD-60b for 2 A2000s that I've got.  How difficult would it be to fit the PCD-60b into one of the 3.5" floppy knock-outs?

I didn't even know that a SCSI multi-card reader was available as a product.  I wish I knew sooner.

The pcd-47b is a 3 slot card reader that mounts as 3 scsi id #'s and does not use LUNS.

the pcd-50 is a 5 slot version that uses SCSI LUNS to address all the slots other than the pcmcia card(which technically is lun0)

The pcd-60b is the 6 slot version, adding a xd picturecard slot, but has a front bezel with a lip around it. It still will fit many 3.5" slots, but sometimes the lip needs sanded down to fit conventional floppy bays. It fits many music samplers as is.Like the pcd-50b,it uses luns to address the slots other than pcmcia.

The last ones sold out earlier today.

It would be interesting if someone started a thread to see benchmarks between different models (SCSI to PCMCIA only). I do believe one user got 6Mb sec (to be confirmed) on a cyberstorm.

My numbers are a bit below that 6 MB/s in the 3.5 to 5 range. Mech will know for sure.

I suggested a new thread as user(s) will need to show make, model and what firmware the unit has.

You may also have to post what SCSI controller is used & speed if the processor to get a rough idea which unit is the fastest as some user(s) may want to use CF as their main drive (bootable) if its fast enough to use as a main drive.

There's about a million variables involved in that that would make any sort of speed comparisons between non-identical hardware pretty much useless, down to the type of CF, number of buffers, etc., etc.  @danbeaver also has a ridiculously fast Amiga for his.  ;)

For me I'm getting a little over 2 MB/sec according to SysInfo 4.0, all the latest firmwares, and with a 4GB Transcend CF card run through the PCMCIA adapter of my Mechware reader.  Rest of my hardware specs are in my sig.  ;)

It is an A4000T with a CSPPC and some extras.  I used DriveSpeed, not SysInfo.

I used to use an MC-Disk MPL G1 (I think) on my CSPPC, with a card reader in the PCMCIA slot. (all via a 68>50 pin adapter with upper 8 bits properly terminated).

Damned convenient, although set me back a fair few quid at the time iirc.
Mac Mini G4 (1.5GHz, 64MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.6
Powerbook 5.8 (15", 1.67GHz, 128MB VRam, 1GB Ram): MorphOS 3.8.

Windows-free since 2011-2014 (Damn you Netflix!)
