Amibay issues
« on: April 26, 2013, 01:52:26 AM »
Hey all:
I was just talked into joining Amibay to possible buy an item.
Well... I tried to register and it keeps telling me it sending a e-mail with some code.
Never came, so I left the webmaster two notes explaining and asking for help.

So far, NOTHING!

Did this happen to anyone else?

Is amibay closed?

M

I'd check your spam trap to see if it got flagged as a false positive. Otherwise, PM me with the details of the account you set up and I'll forward it to one of the admins.

If I were you I would avoid Amibay at all costs. They are not in the amiga spirit and you better be prepared for whatever you buy on there they will dictate to you what you can and cant do with it, to who and if you sell it , and where u sell it. Its incredible. Incredibly ridiculous.

I didn't really need to use amibay to date, so I didn't.
But a fellow SACC member said I might be able to find some amiga items I wanted.
When I tried to sign up, I read the rules, lots of rules...

But I just buy the once in a while item.

Don't mind magnetic, he's just butthurt on account of having been banned (several times, IIRC.) Amibay's a great place as long as you can be assed to read and respect the rules.

I did buy and sell a bunch of stuff on amibay, it's not that bad. Yes there are some rules, but it's not that complicated. I really like the fact that there's no fee to post things you want to sell. Anyway, i would agree with commodorejohn, the email is probably in the spam folder.

But if I have this much trouble just signing up...
It's making me spider senses tingle (grin)

oh well, I can keep using craigslist, ebay and mostly SACC (which is where I get my best stuff and help)
sometimes on amigadot org too

thx

What the hell does that mean?

Bit inappropriate. Or maybe it's an acronym?  But they are certainly anal. IMO.

I have nothing against them, merely in the mindset I experienced there.  But years ago when I was getting back into the hobby, I signed up on Amibay to try and procure some legacy hardware.  Was fine with the rules, or I wouldn't have signed up fully.

I found the community to be dicks, quite frankly.  I'd been out of the hobby since the 1990's, and I had the audacity to ask a question (an extremely well written and polite one) in one thread and got berated privately to the point where it was at "go away n00b, we dun want you!" levels.

Went to eBay, found a PPC/040 powered A1200 for $300.  Been back to Amibay once since and see no change in the elitist bull**** attitudes some people there had when I was first there 5 years ago.

Not much on the "Old Boys Clubs" that treat newcomers like ****, and I got that feeling from Amibay and I am not alone.

There rules are rubbish, no one follows them anyways and there are mostley traiders there..

Signing up for amiga.org was not easy either, the signup process is worse than getting a mortgage.. after registration it took about a week to be verified.

@thread

some folks love amibay. some folks don't. but there is absolutely no need for any personal attacks or name-calling. this isn't a grade school playground, so let's remember to keep it civil and back up our opinions with facts. thanks!

Same here. I hope they keep it like that.
