Individual Computers & KickStart Licenses From Hyperion

"09.03.2013: Hyperion and Individual Computers sign license agreement

Brussels, March 9th, 2013: today, Hyperion Entertainment CVBA  (Belgium) and Individual Computers GmbH (Germany) have signed a license  agreement for use of Kickstart 1.3 and Kickstart 3.1 ROMs in processor  accelerators for Amiga 500, Amiga 1000, Amiga 2000 and Amiga 2500.

In addition to the binary license, Hyperion will grant Individual  Computers access to the source code of the IDE driver for further  development which may facilitate installation of AmigaOS 4.1 and beyond.

The first product to make use of this license will be the entry-level  accelerator for Amiga 500 called "ACA500": With both Kickstart images in  the flashrom of this product, the user will benefit from best  compatibility with floppy-based and CF/harddisk-based software.

Further, the flashrom of ACA500 will contain the FAT95 filesystem, which allows accessing PC-formatted CF cards in the second CF card slot of the ACA500. Automatic mounting software will eliminate the need for a complicated installtion procedure. Special thanks go to the author of FAT95 Torsten Jager, who has put his work under LGPL per our request."

Since when did Hyperion have the right to do this?

Yeah, I feel ya, Nicholas, but I'll take some Wizard of Oz backroom dealings if the end result is Jens being able to make better products...

Assuming those better products are A3000/A4000 fast 040 or 060 accelerators with onboard IDE/SATA, USB, Graphics and Ethernet.

I think they may have just warmed the hearts of Amiga Inc lawyers, it's hard to see this as legal.

Lawyers -- can Amiga Inc. still afford to hire lawyers?

I think Hyperion are testing Amiga Inc, poking a stick to see if they are really dead or not.

Such an outcome would be terrific, but I can't help but feel that the money* would be better spent paying Toni and/or Jason to make the AROS 68k Kickstart ROM 99.999999% compatible than lining the pockets of Mr Hermans.

*That's assuming any money is actually changing hands.

And I agree with Nicholas, it would have made more sense to fund the development of open software.

Huh?  Hyperion, Amiga Inc, or Individual Computers?  And you would need one, why?
