It should connect to your A4000 internal IDE connector in the same way it connects to your A1200.  I use one on my A4000, but I have it connected to Zorro IDE card and I've disabled the motherboard IDE connector.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

LoadWB has already posted on a SCSI version if you have a CPU card with a SCSI controller.  If you want to attach one to your existing IDE controller and you don't fancy tracking down one that works and then installing your OS onto it then check out AmigaKit:

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=883

They'll supply the adapter, a card and pre-format it for you.

Actually that is IDE.  None the less, AmigaKit does have pre-made setups for you.  That guide was done years ago when people were just experimenting with CF cards in "classic" systems.

Glad it was informative.  Now that SSDs are coming down in price and I can get working IDE->SATA adapters, I've considered going to SSD.  However, to take full advantage of such a setup the standard on-board IDE would have to be upgraded using the PIO2 update or an IDEFix,

I found a good SCSI->SATA adapter for around $150.  While that adds a hefty price tag to a hobby project, using an SSD with an accelerator's SCSI interface would be the better performance option versus the on-board IDE.

Hi i have now tried to get my CF cards to work on my Amiga 4000. but i can not get it to work at all, there is only black screen when i try. But when i put my old seagate hard disk  back in it works fine. i have bought a CF STARTER KIT for AMIGA 600/1200/4000/CD32 ATARI FALCON and tried that but i did not help.

This one replaces a harddrive, i.e. you need an IDE cable and it mounts somewhere internally: http://www.delock.de/produkte/F_276_intern_91645/merkmale.html

This one mounts directly on the IDE controller (don't know if it fits into an A4000): http://www.delock.de/produkte/F_276_intern_91647/merkmale.html

This one is like the first one (needs a cable) but mounts into a free expansion slot so that you can change the CF card from the outside: http://www.delock.de/produkte/F_276_intern_91624/merkmale.html

All of them have a power connector similar to that of a floppy drive. You might need an adapter like this one: http://www.delock.de/produkte/F_726_Stromkabel_82111/merkmale.html
