CF drive in Amiga 1200
« on: September 08, 2012, 09:49:47 AM »
Hi i got an Amiga 1200 a few weeks ago, it came with a compact flash drive with games i could use though Pcmcia door with a program called Cf drive and it works perfect with the internal hard disk that came with the Amiga. But i have since gotten 2 new hard disk, but i cannot get it to work on the 2 new hard disk. I have copied the CF drive program onto a diskette and installed it on the new hard disks. but i cannot get the Cf drive to boot, it do not show up anywhere on workbench, all is says DF0 is already mounted when i try and open it again. and also under Cf drive program, it says compactflash.device is not active. Do you know what i can do? i find it strange that it does not work when i have installed the CF drive program on the new hard disks.

If you want the cf drive to boot, you need an ide(notebook)to cf adapter. For example like this:

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:IDE_nach_Compact-Flash_Adapter.jpg
Amiga 500: 68030@14MHz/68882@40MHz/ 5.5MB RAM/80MB HDD/Delfina FE Sound card/Kickstart 3.1/OS 3.1

Macmini 10,1 PPC 1.58GHz, 1GB Ram, 80GB HDD 5400rpm, Ati Radeon 9200/32MB, , MorphOs 3.1

PowerBook 15" PPC 1.67GHz, 2GB Ram, 250GB HDD, ATI 9700/128MB, MorphOS 3.1

Hi that was a smart adapter :) but this compact flash has no workbench, it is just full with games, and when used with the hard disk that came with the Amiga it worked when i used the program CF drive. But i have coppied the program to the 2 new hard disks i have gotten. i just cannot get the 4 gig flash drive to show the games on the them. but it worked perfect with the hard disk that came with the amiga when plugged in the Pcmcia door.

What you call a program is probably just a script which activates the required drivers. Open it in a text editor and see what it contains.

In order to get the CF card running, you need to copy all driver files and not just the starting script.

Basically you need these files:

Devs/compactflash.device
L/fat95
Storage/DOSDrivers/CF0
Storage/DOSDrivers/CF0.info

and probably also these:

C/CardPatch
C/CardReset

If you want to install from scratch, you can get the files from there:
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/cfd
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/CardPatch
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/CardReset

Instead of the start script you can leave out the CF0 icon from Storage/DOSDrivers. Then you can activate it quickly by a double click.
