A3000 vs A2000 keyboard
« on: September 07, 2012, 04:35:47 PM »
I think the sizes of keys is the same for both models, though on observing my German A3000 keyboard and a UK A1500 (basically an A2000) keyboard, I've noticed that the lettering on the A3000 is cleaner and a tad bit smaller. For instance, the tab key's arrows on the A3000 key point almost exactly at the horizontal line. On the A2000 key, they are *inside* the horizontal line, losing their "pointedness".

Is this the case for US/UK/AUS A3000 keyboards, or is the lettering exactly the same as that for US/UK/AUS A2000 keyboards?

Reason asking is that I'm looking to switch keys but I'd rather know if I'll maintain a consistent US/UK/AUS model factory look. Otherwise I'll just try and get a US A3000 keyboard from the bays.

I know C= management didn't give much hoot about design let alone worry about key lettering, but FWIW, I'd like to figure out this inconsistent mess of theirs.

Thanks for the link, though they seem to be obsessing over the switch mechanism than letter design.

I have three A2000 keyboards, and the all look different. It's subtle, but they're different.

It's possible that those old 2000 keyboard keys are double shot, which may look less sharp but conversely still be much better than the 3000.

Seems that people like those Cherry switch keyboards, I still have one like that, actually I have 3 kinds of keyboards for big box Amigas. The Cherry switch, Spring and rubber.
My original A3000 keyboard died and it was using the plastic membrane. Set of keys did not work, and I found out that there was no connectivity on one of the lines on the membrane. The ones that are using PCB board are solid.

I think the "Cherry" keyboards are the older a2000 ones with the colored Amiga keys.. iirc

the A3000 kybrds look much more modern to me. There is also a special version A3000T keyboard with a factory extra long cord (so you can have the tower under the desk)
bPlan Pegasos2 G4@1ghz
Quad Boot:Reg. MorphOS | OS4.1 U4 |Ubuntu GNU-Linux | MacOS X

Amiga 2000 Rom Switcher w/ 3.1 + 1.3 | HardFrame SCSI | CBM Ram board| A Squared LIVE! 2000 | Vlab Motion | Firecracker 24 gfx

Commodore CDTV: 68010 | ECS | 9mb Ram | SCSI -TV | 3.9 Rom | Developer EPROMs

Hey. Tried to pm you but your inbox is full. I was wondering if you have the 1942 available for sale perhaps...
