Default Help with Amiga 600

Hi a few hours ago i took my Amiga 600 apart to correct the keyboard, but now i can not power it up, it is all dead. The last thing was there was light on caps lock all the time, and then i took the keyboard of and on again, and it was dead. Does anybody know what there could be wrong?

When you say dead do you mean the keyboard or the full system. Also which version. Of the 600 is it.

It might not have anything to do with the removal of the keyboard, but simply the capacitors failing. I have gone through a few old A600s. They seem fine and boot up when I first plug them in, then I switch them off and mess around with cables or something, switch it back on and get nothing but a black screen and a Caps Lock light. It seems to be a very common problem with A600s in the last couple of years, those old capacitors are all failing these days.

There's a chance it might start working if you simply leave it turned on for a while on the black screen.

No fuses, it's all those little round, silver electrolytic capacitors all over the board. If you're not handy with a soldering iron yourself, you can send the motherboard to one of the Amiga repairers who usually offer an Amiga capacitor replacement service.

I know how you feel, I get temporarily excited that I have just got a working A600 but it doesn't last long.

It's best to get them repaired sooner rather than later though, the acid inside the capacitors will eventually leak out and begin damaging the motherboard and surrounding components.

Amigakit do a cap replacement service. I have thought about sending mine off for new ones before something major happens to it.

Hi.

Remove the scandoubler, memory card and CF disk..and turn it on, still dead?

More you get inside your amiga, more prone to fail. So go back to basic and just try it plain.

I cross my finger and hope you get the kickstart screen.

Amiga 600's are also known to have poor quality soldering (off the assembly line) with tiny cracks that can lead to intermittent issues...

I'm sure Amigakit knows to look for that....

+1

Cracks around the CPU is common on A600.

Special if the owner before you have used add-on board over the CPU.
