I know 040's generate quite a bit of heat, but is it possible to run one in an amiga 1200 wedge case without stability issues, or is that generally out of the question?
Could you rig something up with fans etc ? (and before the A2000 troll comes in, I am not selling my 1200, thanks for playing)

I ran Apollo 1240 @28mhz in my wedge case for about a year. No problems. No additional fans other than the one on the processor.

It is possible. Mravnad had one and it worked like a charm.
Still, he had to take the trapdoor cover off, and concoct some kind of cooling system (cooler + fan). But it did work without stability problems.

The trapdoor cover is missing on mine anyways.
You could probably add a fan outside blowing air across too, for a bit extra circulation. Just pondering options for the girl, if I come across a decent priced 040

Apollo have tha cpu looking to the keyboard, blizzard 1240t is like all blizzards with cpu at the other side, the problem is tha fan, you cant close the trapdoor.
By the way the T of blizzard 1240t is tower, i dont know if in a desktop runs cooled enough.

Besides heat another issue is power consumption. The bog standard A1200 power supply is just not enough for an 040 esp. if you are running a hard drive too.
Do you have a beefy power supply?

My 80Mhz Apollo 1260 runs in a wedge case very happily and this is without using any of those nasty over-sized rubber feet.
I've never used the trapdoor cover BTW, not even when I had an 030, |

I drilled ventilation holes in my trapdoor cover right where the processor chip is. But it's a Cobra 030 and it fits. Dunno if you have the option of doing the same for an Apollo 040 for the bits that stick out. I guess it's not worth the effort.
The lower the mhz the lower the heat, generally. Dunno if decent(cheap) and Apollo 040 can be said in the same sentence though. Unless it's a damaged one.

No, they're great units when you can get one. Like all old hardware there are risks. Any 040 / 060 capable board is gonna fetch a few $.
How about this 060: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blizzard-126...item337b22c549
