r.carde, ah, I see. I didn't realize the ribbon cable and the BNC connector bus were together like that. I'm planning to use this Flyer with a Toaster 2000 card in a 2000/060. My Toaster card is already working in that machine.
My project may be getting a little complicated because of the lack of this cable. Another user here made his own cable and sent me a picture, so I believe I can do that but of course was hoping for an easy out.

If you need some money to build cables, I can chip in some cash.

I've posted this before, but for those who've not seen it this is an extra that I made for my toaster/flyer setup.

I already have the BNC cable for the Toaster 4000 and only need the Flyer card. The "Toaster not responding" error is a common problem with the Toaster 4000. The sync adjustment is pretty easy but there seems to be an aging component issue to this and I have one Toaster 4000 that is getting really hard to adjust to the right voltage. At this point, it only syncs when the Toaster is warmed up--has to be on for at least 20 minutes. It works fine if I don't input external video and just run Toaster Paint or Lightwave but syncing to live video is touchy.

First and foremost suspects... old capacitors. More than half the time replacing them cure old "twitchy" circuits. Also stock Amiga power supplies weren't always up the the task of running a toaster system that might also be running TBCs, memory expansions, cpu cards. Factor in age, and it's probably time to repair/replace/upgrade that old supply. And again... that PS has old caps.

Old electrolytic capacitors are always suspect and the first thing to check.
I've got a good power supply in my A4000 and a spare. I'm also paying attention to wattage and am at around 96 watts without a flyer right now with the power supply rated at 150 watts--not stressed at all. What happens with the Toaster 4000 I've got now is that I can adjust it so it works cold or works hot but not both. The voltage at the check point which is dependant of the sync frequency is not stable at all and adjusting it is, at this point, guess work. I've got another one with the BNC sync cable waiting for a Flyer and I'm hoping this one will be more stable.

I see the VT4000 has many tantalum caps. (small yellow rounded candy looking things) Those go bad also causing issues. Then of course chips themselfs can break down and not much you can do there.
Newtek had "lifetime warranty" on all the equipment. Have you ever asked them about sending it in for a check up? Plaz |

Not being the original purchaser of my equipment, I would tread lightly with Newtek. If anything, I would try to get knowledge from them--ie--just tell me what's wrong and I'll fix it myself. Then I could post the fix online for everyone.

Now that's downright encouraging! Thanks. Do you know if there is a diagram or photo somewhere showing where the cable connects on the Toaster 2000 end? The Toaster I/O header on the Flyer card has 20 pins. I see two male headers on the Toaster 2000 each with 16 pins. They are not marked, and I have no documentation with this stuff.

Just a suggestion........ Next time why don't verify that your hardware works BEFORE you list it for sale. Maybe list it as "unknown condition".
That way people don't get their hopes up that something is actually for sale when it is'nt! I thought that I was first in line too..... Yippee.... Thanks for wasting my time.......... Last edited by Sandman; 08-27-2012 at 10:24 AM.. |

Hey, I'm still interested in a Flyer card. No hurry. I probably won't around to installing for a while once I get it anyway.
