Thats just PURE balls after the way they treated AROS developers.
I would think whoever the author of the roms is could modify the license to prevent them from using it. If I were him, I'd be sending them a cease and desist letter right now.... |

C=OS if free to download and use, I see no issue there.

As long as they follow the license there is no issue. They cannot iirc use the cd-handler commercially nor can anyone else.

If I understand their Scheme of resellers, they intend to somehow sell it to end users adding it to the price, so it is open source free and payable? SUSE does it, but in much more positive way. In my eyes, AROS community should restrict the use of it, and Amiga Forever should protect itself from COS ripp off option. Both are ripp offs, just because you don`t want to invest. Everything is done by someone else, and you just pick the money pretending to be offering something new with the machines that you doubleprice. Intresting exploit of Linux, not only Amiga and CBM. Its not illegal, but one must be fool to pay for e.g. Mint 13 and apps he can download by himself on half priced same hardware. |

Guess it's a good thing it's not your decision. And considering you quoted from Leo's announcement I'm pretty sure it was mentioned they were using AROS.

But surely the emulation box will not say "Thanks to AROS" or "download AROS" But I somehow missed Leo donated at Power2People 2 step bounties and do remember he promised support to AROS development at AROS Exec. So yes, its good for C=USA its not up to me to decide it. Question is, is it good for AROS? Also, dont forget what Barron sad about AROS, and now they jump to their own mouth, just to save less then 20$ per computer for complete AF and full emulation ablities. |

Just because the license agreement allows them to do it doesn't mean its a good move on their part. After all the lies and attacks made on aros now to go use parts of aros is pretty ridiculous, and shows how shallow and self serving a "company" like that is.
Remember, their ceo said they had ZERO interest in AROS. Oh ****... Unless we can use the roms. haha. This "company" amuses me because they do like the absolute least amount of actual work on something possible. Amazing. And the fact that they once promised to heavily financially support aros, then say "we're not running a charity for supporting aros here." just priceless. You would think just from a pr perspective they would donate 10 or 20k to AROS just to make peace. That should be easy for a company who's advertising budget is 30 million dollars. If their budget for advertising is 30 million, I would think they can afford a 10 or 20k gift to AROS development for using these roms... Its the least they can do. There might not be a legal issue, but that sure as hell doesn't make this admirable. For all their attempts to court the community, they've yet to give anything back to any part of it, and for them to profit by the work of a group like the AROS team and not give any kind of support is just low, whether or not the exploited parties don't mind.

Or, stipulating CUSA gave AROS the finger, it could also be a bit of vindication for the AROS team that CUSA needs them to make their product.

Maybe a bounty could be started to pay off the author of the roms NOT to allow them to use the rom? hahaha.
