New Amiga Mobiles Coming Soon (Android)
« on: October 25, 2011, 03:55:03 PM »
The Amiga Sermo series of mobile phones leverage Google’s Android operating system and IContain’s technologies to bring industry leading handsets to RTO customers. Leading the charge is the Sermo I — boasting a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Android Froyo 2.2, and a huge 4.3″ touchscreen.

That's lovely, another bog-standard generic product with shameless brand-whoring. Do you think if we all pitch in, we can get enough to have someone shove it into one of McEwen's orifices?
Computers: Amiga 1200, DEC VAXStation 4000/60, DEC MicroPDP-11/73
Synthesizers: Roland JX-10/MT-32/D-10, Oberheim Matrix-6, Yamaha DX7/FB-01, Korg MS-20 Mini, Ensoniq Mirage/SQ-80, Sequential Circuits Prophet-600, Hohner String Performer

Interesting concept, but a mobile OS from 2008 on outdated hardware, but I'm sure the Amiga name will sell a few, sadly.

Should be thankful they aren't making mentions of "continuing Jay Miner's great work" in the process like all the other graverobbers are, lol.

This seems to be upsetting the C-USA crowd so sure! Why the hell not.

Other old hardware piece with the logo "Amiga" to get our money. I don't buy this phone "Amiga".

hmm...
if the price is ok(i mean dirty cheap) i would buy one. I have repaired my old Meizu M8 which is a nice phone. Dualbooting WinCE and Android.. AROS runs too. Even the x86 version in qemu : )

BTW. i believe my Meizu was the first phone on which AROS was running : p (well just emulated at this time but it worked)

By the way Meizu will launch the 1st Quadcore phone in the next months ; )

Android based and AROS hosted compatible ; )

I had an email exchange with Todd from iContain - it started when I emailed him to tell him no Amigan would consider buying his products.

He told me that he had had tried to contact Hyperion and got no response from them so I got in contact with Rogue and tried to set up a communication.

As far as I can tell, Todd never even bothered to try to contact Hyperion - he just pretended so he could whinge, and justify misusing the Amiga name for an Android phone (amongst other ridiculous products).

I have no objection to Android - indeed, I wish I'd waited a couple of months and got an Android instead of my Nokia. - just don't label it as Amiga.

I'm no more likely to buy anything from iContain than I am from C-USA.  Clearly, Amiga, Inc gave them the rights to the name in an attempt to destabilise the market.  I'll wait till there's a legitimate Amiga phone.

Great News!  Finally a platform I can run my AmigaAnywhere apps on. ;)

Seriously though, It's not released yet and it is only spec'ed for Android 2.2.  Android 4.0 is out now.  The app I'm working on Targets 2.3 as a minimum API.

I wish A-Inc, Hyperion, etc, the best of luck.
I would love to get an AOS4.x machine and Aros on Android.
