Probably had something to do with this: (emphasis mine)

Amiga 4000T tower
50 MHz 68060 cpu
880k Amiga floppy
Apple cd-rom drive
IBM 4 gig hard drive
Iomega 100 meg Zip drive
Kensington “Mouse in a Box PC” serial mouse with adapter
Standard Amiga keyboard
640 megs of RAM. Not a typo.
128 megs of RAM on motherboard
Two 256 meg RAM ZoRam cards in Zorro 3 slots
Picasso IV 4 meg 24 bit graphics card
Ariadne II ethernet networking card

Compact Flash drive mounted in Zorro bay
2 keys that lockout the computer. Yes, it came new with these, yes I still have them.

I know this will get me hate replies but why would anyone pay this?  You could put $4k towards an amazing PC and run WinUAE on it.  WinUAE is not real hardware but it will be much, much faster than that setup.  Plus, you can run current software along with your Amiga software.

I know the die-hards are all about true Amiga hardware but I just don't see how people justify that kind of money.

To each his own, I guess, but that is either the ultimate collector or the sucker that PT keeps talking about.

Sold to some guy from Nigeria who will send him a cheque for $10,000, ask him to deduct the $4,000 and then send him the Amiga plus the other $6,000 to an address in Florida.  ;)

As someone who uses WinUAE, Minimigs and real Amigas, all I can say is that you can "feel" the difference between emulation and the genuine article.

It's like asking someone why they want to drive a 1960's Jaguar instead of a 2011 model, when the new model is just so much faster and comfortable.  :)

I agree but at the same time... I think that I would actually prefer WinUAE than spending that amount of money on it. Also the NG amigas feals just as much Amiga as my a4k does.

How'd they get the motherboard to support 128MB?  Thought the 4000T, like the 4000, etc., only had room for 16MB + 2MB Chip?

I agree.  $1000 would buy a very nice PC setup with Amiga Forever and the remaining $3000 would pay for a flight to Rio de Janero where I would spend a week shagging my way around Copacabana.

I certainly wouldn't waste $4000 on an old computer!  :D
