The best software I found for resizing in Windows was Fotosizer, but...

I prefer to work under Windows as little as possible. It's bad enough that all my mapping and Wad editing needs must be done there.

Alright, here are a few examples of what I'm working with. I have provided to ZIP files, one contains screen shots of some of the models I'm trying to shrink down and use, and the other contains a texture of a crate in it's original form, it's shrank form, it's shrank and sharpened form, and at long last shrank with new palette(s) applied.

The textures for the most part are not problematic. I am pretty happy with the results, though I noticed that once I apply the Palette's that some of the colors bleed. In the case of the file with the DOOM Palette, I already cleaned it up, but I have not touched to colors on the one with the Dark Forces Palette, so you can see what I'm talking about on that one.

As for the sprites, if you compare Sentry.BMP with Sentry.PNG you can see how horrible the images begin to look once shrank. If anyone can manage to shrink any of these models down without loosing so much detail, then PLEASE by all means, let me know how you do it!

For the note, small sprites like the Sentry need to be shrank down to something like 42x42 pixels, where as the the Storm Troopers need to fit in a pixel range of something like 45x56 (width height). As for the Mech1, it will need to fit within a pixel ratio of 50x70 (width x height).

EDIT: I can not upload anything here but the Crates after they have been shrank and treated. Amiga.org's file size limit is WAY to low!!!

Going to have to upload the rest to my page then come back and link to them. Grrr. :/

your included Sentry.png was a little bigger (50x52).

original

yours

some resizes with imagemagick (that I have handy on this pc)

(Adaptive Resize)

(resize - point filter)

(resize - Lagrange order 3 filter)

(resize - Lagrange order 4 filter)

(resize - lanczos filter)

(resize - mitchell)

there are other filters / options to scale too http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/resize/ and you could do other processing to improve it

I'll have to look at those at home, my parent's computer screen is too dark.

But thank you for having a look, I'm eager to see what they look like on a good screen!

As for the reason mine was larger. It's because that's as small as I could get it before it looked like utter and total crap. In fact I still think my end result looks pretty crappy, I had one that looked a tad bit better, but forgot to include it.

Anyhow, if you could possibly shrink down one of the other models to fit within the specs I mentioned, I'll REALLY be impressed! I always ended up with a bunch of blocks that hardly resembled the original model.

On that note, I may have to take smaller screen shots of the models to begin with. That has helped in the past, but again, zooming out the model results in less detail.

Once you have viewed em on a decent screen, let me know if you prefer any of my scaling ones from yours and if so ill do the resize (please give me a list of sizes for each image as I wasnt sure about the size you wanted for some of them)

Cheers.

UConv (UltraConv)?
ArtEffect?
Superview?

Hmm... You have the format list in the Save Image window. It just saves in the selected format with both Save and Save As buttons. As usual (with Amiga), the file extension doesn't matter.

Is the author of Show Girls still working on this?
I guess so, but I think it's more about if he needs certain function or somebody begs for something enough Anyway, author is very familiar for all demosceners here.. he's kiero/MaWi.. you can find him on IRC too

btw. there's Picasa Web Album manager for ShowGirls too... it's available there

Looks like I did end up sharing my best result after all. I just needed to replace the redness on the edges with more black and Grays.

I thank you for the offer, but what I'm looking to do here is give time for a few people to experiment and submit their results. Then if someone can come up with something that is a step above the rest, I'd like then to share their methods so I can learn from them.

The keyfile works fine for me and other people who have tried it. It was given away free to the Amiga community with a copy of CU Amiga Magazine and is registered to DrawStudio, a demo of which came on the cover CD that issue.

No problem, sorry I haven't gotten around to replying yet, I'm swamped with private messages I need to reply to.

That is kind of strange, and I can't explain it really. But I'm glad you managed to find a keyfile that works for you anyway, I have downloaded it so I have a backup to send to anyone else who might require it in the future.

If I select SAVE, that is an option, if I select where I want to save, it is not.

Anyhow, changing the file extension does not seem to do the trick. I loaded up some of these files in Paint Shop Pro under Windows and it does not recognize the format as being JPG, PNG, or what ever. I had to load them up in Paint ++ then save them again in order to get Paint Shop Pro to open them.
