Default Workbench pictures

Is there a way (without having to buy a graphics card) that I can get Workbench to display backdrops better. Even on a 128 colour screen, a 64 colour image looks bad.
I'm using an A1200 030 16mb WB 3.0 with Birdie, Newicons, FastIprefs, Fblit and MCP.

Thanks for you time.

In WB3.5+ there are some image quality controls in the WBPattern prefs. I can't recall if they're in 3.0/3.1.

If you can spare the Chip RAM, you might want to increase the WB screen depth to 256 and find a backdrop to match.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Yes, using ADPro or ImageFX, you could 'grab' the Workbench's palette and use this palette to remap the colours of your desired picture. Using the Floyd-Steinberg dither worked especially good for me.

Good luck!

Or you can make your own backdrop using the workbench colors...

Adjust the image quality setting in FasIPref's replacement of of the Backdrop preferences program. If you have window backdrops they steal colours, too. Back in the days when I was running on AGA I got very good results on a 64-colour Workbench using 32-colour backdrops so it shouldn't really be a problem.
