This announcement already went out by telegraph on accident and is burning up the wires so we are also releasing it here one day early. To Celebrate it's 16th Birthday DiscreetFX is once again helping the Amiga community by Launching Project Metropolis.

What is Project Metropolis you might ask? It is a Instant Download Application Storefront for Amiga OS 4.x, MorphOS, AROS and Classic Amiga. We will not only sell our own applications there, we will sell 3rd party programs as well. A very generous revenue share has been setup for the developer and is paid monthly.

3rd Party developer gets 80%

DiscreetFX gets 20%

The application approval process is very easy and the market will decide which apps are good or bad not DiscreetFX. Now, finally customers will have a central place to buy and Instantly Download their Amiga OS 4.x, MorphOS, AROS and Classic Amiga apps. Can you really call yourself a startup while celebrating your 16th year?


I'm hoping this platform will encourage former developers who don't want to release their old software as freeware to at least make it available again commercially - Final Writer, Wordworth, Envoy, AmIRC come to mind as examples.

Hmm, interesting also. So this what metropolis is. I thought it was going to be a graphics program like Aladdin. But i'm curious, why did you name is Metropolis (great movie by the way)?

A great idea and something Amiga Inc should have done years ago via their website if they had been serious about making money and developing the Amiga name.

I agree but to do so would have required them to spend money and *cough* have a vision...

@DiscreetFX. Not to be too personal but how much did it cost to set something like this up and how difficult was it to do? The obvious comparison i can think of is Apple with itunes which being Apple must have cost a fortune with great difficulty...

WOW! This is really great! I was NOT expecting this at all! Being a long time user of stores like GOG.com, I think this is a really smart and great thing to do for the Amiga community. THANKS DiscreetFX!

Now I really DO need to make that game that will be totally addictive, have multiplayer on-line play and work on all diferent types of Amiga flavors...

I'm excited to see how fast things will get on to it. It may even be a great way to attract older developers who have had or thought of moving on to think again.

Just me being optimistic I guess

DiscreetFX is very different today from when it was just a Video Toaster tutoring service in 1995. Yes, since it is a part time venture we can still call ourselves a startup.

Please note Project Metropolis launches on July 6th for TriCaster, VT[5], SpeedEDIT 2 and LightWave 3D in addition to the June 6th Amiga based storefront.
