Default Osama Bin Laden is dead...

This is one of those times when you remember where you were. I was in my basement playing Jamepond 2 on my A1200. With the news on in the background.

Where were you?

On my couch watching "Shaun of the Dead," installing Drobo Dashboard and setting up iSCSI on a customer server, whilst scratching my gnads.

It is the later part I'll remember most, I suspect.

Of course, that's just when I heard the news. I have no clue what I was doing when it actually happened.

I was playing Street Fighter 3 Second Impact with the tv on in the background.
I doubt I'll remember that, though.

At work taking care of the elderly. Then I got out of work and heard the news from the truth box, and was thinking,"hmmm, and this is a country that claims to stand in wonder and awe of the mystery of mysteries that created us all, that great mystery that time and time again has commanded,"though shall not kill, love your enemy as you would your self, and if you have two coats give one to your brother". Yet they hoot, holla, and celebrate like it's 1999.

And I wonder, do they truly feel safer? After all the true threat is still behind nearly all world events, and the threat of threats is alive and well within each of us. It is called "self".

On that note, I am not keen on militants or hippies, but I am handing out hugs.

(Still haven't bothered watching the news yet so I don't know if this is true or just another rumour or doppleganger that been been killed, if indeed anyone has been killed, hmmm... suppose I'd better go watch the news then...)

I was on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico waiting for my helicopter to arrive so that I could go home.

I was watching the fire at the Twin Tower on the TV after the first plane had hit and wondering if it had been an accident when I saw the second plane hit the other tower. One of my co-workers piped up with "Damit! That stupid pilot was so busy rubbernecking that he flew into the other tower!" I had to calmly explain to him that this wasn't like a car driver rear-ending someone because he was looking at a wreck on the motorway and that some serious **** was going down.

I then had to call my insane ex-wife and inform her that the helicopters were grounded and that I wouldn't be coming in and picking up my daughter. She replied "I don't care what happened or how many people are dead! I'm working tonight and you need to pick up your daughter, so tell them to get that helicopter flying!" I guess you can tell why I divorced her.

I was upstairs listening to music from Jazz Jackrabbit, checking my PMs on Amiga.org about getting an A1200 accelerator, and checking the status of the Pentium laptop I won on eBay earlier. In general, it's been a pretty good day.

My friend, there are reasons they become "exes." BTW, thank you for your hard work -- I think you guys out on the rigs are some unsung heroes, no matter how much your industry is vilified.

There are a lot of people in dangerous jobs we don't think about until something happens. Not long ago a lineman here was killed while restoring power to a neighborhood after a storm. I think few people pause a moment while bitching about their electricity being out to think about what actually goes into getting power to them.

Kinda like the phuqrs who don't think about all the people who put their lives at risk so we can drive cars, have cell phones, pacemakers, TV sets, cheap cutlery, bottles, pens, contact lenses, and so on.

@ Claw22000

Yup... If anyone asks me did you hear about Sammy BinMadMan, I can say "I heard it first from Claw22000" and then leave them wondering just who or what Claw22000 is ....

@ The BilgeRat

Guess he's now playing Statues...

@ LoadWB

Yup... making pens is a high risk job, almost as dangerous as being a firefighter or lifeguard... (WTF...) !!!

Exclamation Ding Dong, Bin Laden is dead!

Ding Dong, the wicked warlock of the East is dead! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Bin Laden was dead on the news tonight. Was just watching TV and watched the news special that came on instead.

Over 7 years and all the Bush administration could do was catch and prosecute the wrong guy (Saddam Hussein). Maybe he was bad but still a scapegoat for the terrorism problem, cause he was easier to catch. All the crap that Obama gets, but his administration has bagged the right guy, and in far less time. Too bad they killed Bin Laden though, I think he'd have suffered more if he was arrested, prosecuted, then sentenced to death like Hussein.

Obviously this doesn't solve the terrorism problem, and perhaps it's more of a symbolic achievement than anything else, but it's a milestone nonetheless.
