I need a good heatsink and quiet-ish fan combo to mount on my 50MHz CS Mk2 060.
I might be tempted to overclock it at some point in the future so a fairly decent cooling system is wanted due to space constraints inside an A4000D.

Hi. Depends on the revision of 060 you have, earlier units get more hot. That said they might not work at higher clocks anyway so end up being used with lower overclocks for users that decide to do it.
I have the latest mask and the one before that. My experience is that neither runs cool enouph to avoid at least a heatsink. It also depends on your ambient temperature a lot. I've found here on the Algarve (south of Portugal) that temps are only low enouph to bear with your fingers on the winter with temperatures of around 10ºC, even then they're very hot. After adding a heatsink to my latest mask it doesn't need cooling without overclocking it. With overclocking a very small fan is enouph. I'm running my Cyberstorm MK2 at 80Mhz with just a small fan and it just gets warm. If I remove the fan it gets really hot though. I'm looking forware to try 85/90/95Mhz if/when I get such an oscillators, should be interesting to find the limits

My old Blizzard060/PCC is only overclocked to 60MHz but it's been running fine now for the past 6 or 7 years with just a wee 40x40x8mm 12V fan from Maplins fixed to it with some sticky fixers, never had a problem with it at all...
![]() You can buy these wee fans for a couple of quid from Maplins and they run very quietly...

You can probably even slow down one of those fans to almost silence db levels by using a lower voltage and still have enouph cooling.
Final advice though, just test the system before running it for long times and it should be fine. One problem with usinga silent fan is that it break/stop working and you won't even notice it, which might raise the processor and CPU board temps too much if your environment temperature is high enouph.

I've used the clip-on type 486 heatsink with fan coolers with sucess in the past, sometimes they require a bit of modification with a file to take away the lip designed to fit over a 486, ad the 060 is a bit bigger, but after that they clip right on :-)
You can usually pick them up from ebay for 4 or 5 quid. If you like I'll send you a picture of mine clipped to a blizzard 2060. Robert.
