Default ACA 1230/28 graphics corruption and system freeze (solution in progress)

EDIT 03/07/11: The problem is not in the ACA card, but probably in the REV 1 Budgie - Jens is looking for a possible solution.

I just got the ACA 1230/28 today - but it causes graphics corruption and after a few minutes the Amiga crashes.

I have an Amiga 1200 (NOS from AmigaKit), Rev 1D4 - so I took it apart so I could remove E123C and E125C according to Jens' document (http://eab.abime.net/attachment.php?...5&d=1294178521). Unfortunately my version doe's not have these components - so it's not a timing problem.

I ordered the ACA without MMU, but the box says "with MMU" - On vesalia.de where I bought it, they have refurbished 1230/28 with MMU -could that be the problem.

Has anybody had the same problems, where it's not related to timing?

The A1200 is completely unmodified and has run for less than 20 hours.

Try it on other amiga before making any conclusions.

Seems like timing problem to me all the way, but it could be faulty accelerator board (not likely)

Have no other 1200 to test on (only 500,600,4000) - but since e123c and 125c are not present what other solutions to the timing problem exists?

Where are you located?

I take it the card is pushed all the way into the Amiga motherboard? If so, try pulling it back out about a mm and then try it again. If that doesn't work, pull it out a little further and try it again.

If you have never used any accelerators before you may need to clean the contacts as it says in the manual.

I just got mine on Friday, the 28 MHz. I have the same problem with graphic corruption. I have tried 2 different motherboards, a rev. 1D1 and a 1D4. Neither board has timing components on the back. Both have 3.1 roms. Both motherboards work fine without the accelerator and, so far, both have no other expansions installed.

I installed 3.1 fresh, added ACAtune to C: and called it from the first line of the startup-sequence. It opens a text window during bootup. I have cleaned the contacts with an eraser and tried seating the accelerator at different increments onto the connector.

The RTC seems to work.

Any other ideas?

@Tenacious
I also had the graphics corruption and unexplainable crashes. Tried my ACA1230/28 on a fixed rev. 2b and 1.d4 mobo. I tried pulling back the card half a millimeter (just like the installation manual said), but it didn't seem to work.
After a couple of minutes the graphics corruption was there again.
Then I powered off my system and let my system cool down for 15 minutes, and pulled back the card again up to a point where I asked myself if it would still work.
I then powered on my system and never got any crashes or graphical errors since.

What revision Budgie chip do you guys have? Jens says there's an untested Budgie revision he didn't know about that could be causing these problems.

Mine is a REV 1 Budgie, and Jens is on the case already. Hopefully he'll get hold of a Budgie Rev 1 mobo, otherwise I have to ship mine to him.

Clean the contact with eraser? That is only necessary on old oxidized boards. No new board needs contacts cleaned with an eraser or anything else...

Its a shame the new aca has probs with some amigas...

Both of my Budgies are rev 0.

Did you find this info on a web site?

@Mozzerfan

This doesn't make sense to me but I'll try it.

@ Magnetic

I don't think anyone has given up.

There is the chance that we got boards with a bad chip, cold solder joint, some intermittence, etc.

I'm guessing that he meant he cleaned the contacts on the A1200 card edge with an eraser, as the ACA1230 slides over the 1200 contacts..
