Amiga 600 Sound, 500 Joysticks
« on: February 17, 2011, 05:57:33 PM »
I have bought two Amiga's for a school retro computing event.

The Amiga 600 has very low sound - I have tried through the modulator and via an RGB/Scart cable. Does anyone have any pointers I can check to adjust the sound. The sound seems perfect and crackle free just very, very low.

I then have an Amiga 500 with perfect sound and visuals but neither of the joystick ports work ....

Any ideas or pointers on this please?

Thanks in advance.

The caps in the audio area are probably bad.

..and quite possibly a bad CIA chip in the A500.  Easy fix, they should be socketed.

For the CIA chip, you could try swapping the two the A500 has to see if the behavior changes, and http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=amiga+8520&_sacat=0&_odkw=amiga+cia&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Capacitors for the A600 can be found all over the place, but you'll have to feel like desoldering and resoldering surface mount components.
