Dead Catweasel MK2
« on: January 19, 2011, 02:15:57 PM »
Dear all,

I am trying to make a Catweasel work but with poor results.
I connected the card to the clockport and tryed almost everything but nothing!
I cannot see anything attached...
I tryed with buddha_atapi.device, buddha_ide.device, scsi.device... I tryed with a CD, an HD and a LS-120...
Some help?
I also tryed with additional power...

The clockport is working since I can use my HyperCOM 3+...

Does exist a diagnostic program?

Really thanx for the help...

Is there an IDE port on the cat then ?

Have you tried it with floppy drives ?

When you were trying the devices were you setting the correct unit.

Were you editing the mounct script for CD0: for cd to include the correct device name, unit number ?

The card is the MkII so with one floppy, two IDE, one clockport... connectors.
I have also tried with a floppy.
I wrote a mountfile by myself and tried with the automated script but nothing!
When I try to use the test program I receive the error that multidisk.device cannot be found! :(((
I am really afraid...

I have also a Catweasel ZII mounted on the A3000 and there is no need to do anything! :( It simply... works... The HD are simply... seen... :(((

I think I will list the card on ebay are "not working" for somebody that can try to repair it!

Are you talking about the catweasel MK2 for A1200 clockport?
The IDE port is not an IDE controller. It's a passthrough connector to use it on an A4000 by hooking it to the IDE port of the A4000.
This device is just a floppy controller, unlike the catweasel zorro 2.

mmm... so I can use the IDE controller ONLY if I connect the card to a IDE channel?
So...
1. floppy through the clockport on A1200
2. floppy through IDE channel on A4000 (and IDE channel of the A1200)? + passthrough of the IDE channel?

Anyway I tried also floppy and it does not work anyway! :(
I connected ONLY through the clockport and nothing... no multidisk.device loaded... have I to do something apart connecting the HD and using the mount file? I see the setup program creates some mountfile according to what I say during setup...

mmm... I tried to make another test!
I connected the Catweasel to the IDE channel of my Amiga... well... the channel is passed through! :-o
I see from the circuit that the IDE connectors are linked to other parts of the card so I suppose that if the "logic" of the card were broken, this connection would not work! :-o
Now I think that "simply" I am not able to make this card work... but my needs were only for the IDE channel and if I cannot use it attached to the clockport... :(

I do not understand. If you need IDE, why don't you just use the IDE from your mobo instead of messing with the catweasel? Besides, with the catweasel connected to IDE, you can't use IDE splitter anymore.

About the clockport connection, double check the cable pin 1. I have not used mine since i dismantled my A1200 tower, but i think multidisk.device has to be loaded from the harddrive because the catweasel has no ROM and is not bootable (unless you have a device called Kywalda or something like that).

I would like to have a CD, an HD an LS-120 (usable only with OS3.9).
With OS4 I cannot use an IDEFix splitter (my story in another post) so I was looking a way to use a clockport controller for the LS120 (any suggestions?), but you already know I understood bad about the use of my catweasel...
Today I decided to test it connected to the IDE channel for two reason:
1. to try a final test (more easy for me)
2. I do not have a cable to connect directly the mobo to two 40 pin units and I hoped I could use the Catweasel... but it's worst than with the IDEFix splitter...
anf anf anf... a big mess...
Now:
1. I found the Catweasel work but it's not usable the way I hoped when I bough;
2. I have no cheap solutions to use the LS120;
3. I have still to buy a cable or an adaptor...
