Amiga 500 Keyboard issues
« on: January 18, 2011, 12:31:21 PM »
I recently purchased my first Amiga an Amiga 500 of ebay. Everything works fine apart from the keyboard. It will let me type a few words and then stop working with the caps lock light blinking. Usually 3 times then stopping for a second and then repeating. Sometimes it blinks once. If I pick the machine up and tip it upside down it usually stops and the keyboard starts working. From this I thought perhaps a loose connection? Any thoughts? Also sometimes while typeing it will suddenly get stuck typing one key forever eg aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and so on...

See my similar issue. I think it is quite common with 500s unfortunately

I solved mine by buying a second hand keyboard on eBay

Managed to get the seller to send me a replacement keyboard out in the post. How simple is it to replace a keyboard what are the steps involved? I have never even opened an Amiga up. Although I have changed hardware on PCs before so I am completely clueless!

Very simple once you get it open (5 screws or so,) the keyboard just sits there and there's one plug and maybe a ground strap to the floppy drive.  Note the colors on the cable though and make sure you plug the new one in the same way.

Thanks will give this a go when it arrives. Would I be correct in thinking its a 10mm Torx screwdriver I need?

Yes, the T10 is the correct Screwdriver.
