Default CD Drive in Bodega Bay

I've been trying for several days to get a CD Dive working in a Bodega Bay. I have a GVP HC+8, AsimCDFS installed. GVP Fastprep and AsimCDFS both see the Toshiba CD drive, but drive will not see CD's (It's spins up, but will not mount) The A500 has 3.1 roms, WB 3.1 and Adram 520 w/ 2MB. I even tried a an 2091 and Cd drive from my A2000 .. same result. (and I know they work fine in the A2000) Could it be the A500 doesn't have the processing power or is it the Bodega Bay's limitations.

Almost certainly a software issue. Your CD0 DOSDriver probably isn't configured correctly. Can you post it here?

Could you show us some pics of the bodega bay?
Would you like to sell it (i can give a good price for it)?

About your problem, as Matt_H said, you have to edit your file CD0 in DEVS: Dosdrivers and set it correctyl with the scsi controller name and the ID of the drive?

It most certainly is not a problem related to the Bodega Bay. I have one, and it runs a CD-drive and a DAT streamer both no trouble at all.

If you have AsimCDFS installed, you shouldn't have to putz around with CD0: in DosDrivers as that's one of the things the program is supposed to do for you.

Try this... get rid of AsimCDFS (totally un-install and make sure none of that crap is in your startup-sequence or user-startup) and then modify your CD0: icon to reflect your gvpscsi.device and the correct unit number of the Toshiba drive. Others here swear by this blow ass software (haha, had to reuse that phrase someone here said a while back), but about the only program I personally find worthwhile on AsimCDFS is the FindSCSI script. Run that first to check the unit number of the CD drive.

You should not need AsimCDFS at all running Kickstart and Workbench 3.1 to mount a CD drive.

Well, I checked the Devs/DosDrivers folder, no CD0.. I did find the AsimCDFS file:
CD0:
Device = gvpscsi.device
Unit = 3
Mount = 1
Buffers = 0
BufMemType = 5
Mask = 0xffffffe
Flags = 0
FileSystem = l:AsimCDFS
DosType = 0x662dabac
GlobVec = -1
Reserved = 0
LowCyl =0
HighCyl = 999
Surfaces = 1
BlocksPerTrack = 32
Priority = 10
StackSize = 5000

CD0 should be in DOSDrivers to be mounted automatically at boot, but can also be mounted just by double clicking the icon anytime.
This set up seems good as long as you set up the ID to 3 and hooked it to the gvp board.
May be have you modified your SCSI chain and forget about proper termination?
Otherwise, you drive may be faulty. Those SCSI drives are old.

You will still need a CD filesystem installed if you uninstall AsimCDFS, and the best CDFS I have used on low-end Amigas is AmiCDFS. You can download it here http://aminet.net/package/disk/cdrom/amicdfs240

I wonder how that one compares with the one on the 3.1 disks. All I've ever had to do was change the CD0: icon to reflect whatever drive number and device I was using. The CDFileSystem file is already a part of OS3.1 in L: (I just checked on my near barebones A3000 setup and on the Extras 3.1 disk itself).

Only problem I've ever had using a certain setup a while back was not being able to lose the CD's icon after ejecting. You could manually eject the CD, but upon re-insertion, Workbench wouldn't recognize the disc change. You'd have to do a reset to get it to play nice again. That was on an A1200 years ago though and can't remember the specifics.

Voila! The simplest way did the trick... removed AsimCDFS and edited CD0. Found the CD right away! Been using AsimCDFS for a long time and never had an issue. Thanks Save2600 and everyone else... Bodega Bay is ready to reassemble and on to the next project!

Yay! Glad you got it working!

Another unsatisfied AsimCDFS user converted (there's been dozens throughout the years)

Where are all the places asimCDFS can hide? I am running 3.1 and have CDfileSystem in L but AsimCDFS is loading as well.

Some of the AsimCDFS files go to sys folder, if you don't need it at startup you can edit out remarks in user-startup file in the "S" folder.

Asim is a bit interesting in that it mounts CD0 manually from SYS:Storage/DOSDrivers through a mount command in the user-startup rather automatically with other devices in DEVSOSDrivers. So, somewhat counter-intuitively, the mountfiles in Storage are the ones you need to edit if something's not working.

You'll quickly run into limitations and problems with CDFileSystem. I highly recommend an updated AsimCDFS (v3.10) or any other CDFS (Ami, Babel, Cache).
