GoldenGate 486SLC problem (error 90)
« on: November 09, 2010, 03:21:56 PM »
I recently acquired a GoldenGate 486SLC with 4MB SIMMS on board.

I've installed everything from the Goldmine I disk into my boot partition of my A4000.

Trying to run "GG" to enable GoldenGate I got the following message:

Quote
GoldenGate Loader reports Error : 90
Diagnosis : cannot coldboot goldengate (no busactivity)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Here is my A4000 config:
A4000 with 16MB Fast RAM, 2MB Chip RAM
AmigaOS 3.9 BB2
CyberStormPPC 604/200MHz + 060/50MHz + 128MB Fast RAM
CyberVisionPPC
GoldenGate 486SLC

No other card occupies my Zorro Slots.

EDIT: I've found a similar thread here about the same problem, but it's too old, and the member who had the problem is inactive. Didn't have enough luck to reach him. :-(

I suppose there were less GG's in the field, so I'm afraid there was/is less GG expertise around**. I have all BridgeBoard models and CPU clip-ons, but the only GG I ever saw (over 10 years ago) had about the same problem as yours. Good luck fixing it, and I'd still like to find a working GG to play with.

**At least on this side of the pond; the BB's were 'from' West Chester PA while I believe the GG's were from Germany.

Did you manage to fix this GoldenGate in the past?

No, he was selling it (cheap), but I did not want to take on another project (I have broken WarpEngines and Cyberstorms in the 10 year old queue)

The GoldenGate does not work correctly with an 68060 nor with OS3.9.
Try an 030 based Kick 3.1 machine, if you have one.

Sorry to hijack the thread but do you know if the A2386 is ok with 060? My Blizz 2040 is soon to be upgraded, this worries me :??:

That is not correct mate since I used an GG 386 perfectly in my former A4000D 060/PPC+CVisionPPC with OS3.9+BB3 (at the time) so I can say that there was NO issue whatsoever. I also installed DOS 6.22+Windows 3.11+Office 4.3 Pro without any issue as well.

GG 486 can be picky though, since I tested in the same setup an GG486 and wasn't working at all (Early startup didn't see it as well).

The only thing I know for sure is that the GG's aren't working with a frequency larger than 50MHz (for 060's) since a close friend of mine tried 60MHz overclock (via new mask 060) and GG wasn't working at all. Upon changing the oscillator back to 50MHz GG was working again just fine.

I did't say it does not work, I said it does not work well.

First thing you should do is turn of CPU caches on your 060. Neither of my Goldengate's will work when CPU caches are turned on.
I never got mine running in OS3.9, they work fine in 3.1 though.
