Lateral HD on A1200
« on: September 12, 2010, 07:05:54 PM »
Hi:
As I don't have friends to show my improvements with the Amiga, I want to show an small but nice one I've just done: To put the HD compact flash aside the Amiga.
Why? I had always the Amiga opened, to use the Compact flash HD with WinUAE, and to change between different CF Hard Drives I have. Finally, putting the HD aside with an slot on the Amiga, I can close the Amiga with all the screws (I had to search for them).
So this was the chance to try the internal cd rom I installed months ago. As you can see it opens and closes perfect, and the HD on it's side I believe is great.

What do you think?

To the ones that didn't answer: haven't you thought putting it outside like this? Don't you like it?

Hi,
Nice setup. I want to install a CDROM in my 1200 like you did. I have already installed a removable CF card on my A4000 (on the back, in the unused "expansion slot" so it wouldn't use up a Zorro slot)

Nice. I'd like to see how it all fixes together inside.

Lots of users including myself have their CF card connected to the IDE removable from outside.

My technique was to glue the 2.5" IDE->CF adapter to the top of the internal PCMCIA connector and then increase the height of the PCMCIA slot in the case using a series of fine files. This makes the slot much cleaner (and easier to do especially for a novice) than cutting a hole in the case with a Dremel or something.

So you have the IDE-CF adapter on top of the PCMCIA? But there isn't much room there, and if you haven't got a Pcmcia card on, you have only the upper "wall" to guide the CF into. In mine it's like connecting the card to the pcmcia slot.

One more.
The Ide-Cf is holded with a screw at the lower part, to the sheilding, and with double side tape and a glued rubber to get it higher at the top part.
To make the slot I only used a drill to make holes along it and a chinese file to give it the right measurements.

Yes. This is a picture of a user AVErsiv who used the same technique I do on an A600. http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/922/img7031r.jpg

But there isn't much room there
?? Never felt like a problem.

if you haven't got a Pcmcia card on, you have only the upper "wall" to guide the CF into.
Plus the receptacle sides & bottom of the CF card adapter.

I like what you've done though.

Yes, it has to be easier that way. I prefer mine because I can take the card from above and below, and over the Pcmcía card you'll have to take it by it's sides, but it isn't a real problem...

I've seen too the Ide-cf in the trapdoor under the floppy drive, but I will need that place for the Indivision Aga connection whenever it will be for sale again...

@kolla
That is not my A600 but I can answer your questions.

Quote from: kolla;579098

That is the Kickstart switch. It is just a standard 3-pole, two way switch (+5v, 0v, A17) which switches the 1Mbyte 27C800 EPROM containing two kickstart images KS3.1 v40.63 & KS 1.3 (v34.5 with A600 IDE patch). It is the cheapest and easy to fit kickstart switcher there is taking up almost no room in the case.

It is one of the remakes of LordVader's A608 (2008).

Hi:
I have a dude: I made the Amikit conversion to a real Amiga;... is there a difference between my windows (icons options up in the window) and the normal Dopus installation (shown in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iKiBfZt0wc) ???

I want to add something, and I don't mean your're answering right now, but I love this web because now it's half past one AM (tomorrow's holiday here) and there are fifteen people watching it...
