Default Amiga Modem Unboxing (lots of pics)

Hi all, a few days ago I bought a NIB C= 1680 modem (you might have seen it on ebay), and thought I'd share the unboxing process here for anyone interested, it's not every day you see Amiga stuff this old still factory sealed
Sorry to anyone who thinks it belongs in a museum (or locked away in someone's basement), but I love taking stuff out of the packaging, and since I wasn't around to buy anything Amiga when it came out, I can't resist taking up this opportunity
So, let's get started!

(Shrink wrapping removed, revealing.. Nothing )

The contents:

And there it is.. I don't know why the cables look so filthy, hopefully it's removable.

Sparkling white!

I wonder if the adhesive's still good...

I'm not sure what's in this, but it certainly was generous of them.

This is actually exactally where I was planning to attach it to my A1000, so that template will come in handy!

And there you have it, I hope you've found this small untouched piece of history fasinating

Wow. Thanks for the pics, what a great find. It's like Christmas and an archaeological dig put together.
I found a 1011 in the shed the other day still in its original packaging, I've taken a peek at it but am really looking forward to the weekend, when I shall unpack it and admire the whitey white.

According to google maps the address on the form is currently in the hands of AOL. I'd be interested to know what they'd think of my request

I drew those comparisons as well and nice find on the A1011, it'll put mine to shame!

There's no way that cable would have a speck of dirt on it let alone be filthy if it were truly 'factory sealed'.

Is the serial connector just as dirty on the other side? If it's clean, then there's a good chance it's been hooked up to something. If it's just as dirty, then it's probably been sitting gathering dust with the modem covered up.

Still a great find though!

Could the discolouration be due to the plastics reacting with ozone or something?

Is that just discolouration on the cable or actual dirt (which would indicate it had been used before)?

thanks for taking the pics

Those cables tend to discolour pretty easy in my experience

I believe that black stuff if chemical that seeps out of that rubber type cable.

If you notice it is on both the power cable and the serial cable rubber, but everything else is perfect.

I have had many similar cables do this same thing sitting in boxes. The substance is sort of sticky chemical that peels/rolls in to balls off as you rub it. It is easily cleaned off and all. But not dirt.

Back in my day, we didn't have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we'd just have to shove them together.

That is a nice find;hope it was cheap.

And taking pictures at every stage is nice idea.

I still have my 1680 bought new in 1992? from Swallen's dept. store in Cincinnati. The box is here ,flattened and stacked with other similar boxes;I had to discard all the cardboard dividers and foam for space rerasons.

Neat little modem, worked well for checking into local Atari BBS ( I couldn't afford long distance charges to Commodore BBS!).

I did not get a mounting bracket with my 1680. It rested under the computer until I got the GenLock. I didn't get ProComm with mine, either heheheh
