USB adapter mouse and wheel
« on: July 28, 2010, 05:49:00 PM »
Hi.

I have one of those USB adapters for a standard optical logitech mouse, working perfectly.

However i can't manage to use the wheel, even with FreeWheel from aminet.

If anyone has the same adaptor, is there any solution?

Newmouse seems useless, as this is not a serial mouse.

Thanks for helping.

This adapter does not support the wheel. Nobody has got it to work yet, although the ebay advert says it should work.

This is a rip-off. Better buy a Cocolino or Micromys or build your own ps2m.

I too tried this adaptor, could never get it to work with the scroll wheel either.

Cocolino works perfectly with any mice that I have tried, the best mouse I have found were Technika brand, this mouse is wireless and last for about 6 days on rechargeable batteries. Cost £7.95 from Tescos... :)

@Xanxi: can you try to fit the adapter on AMIGA A600 ?

Pity it does not work with the wheel because this adapter is perfect for everything else. And it can power flawlessly all the optical mices i tried.

As for the A600, i still have to check (my 2 A600 are not at home, i need to look for them in the stocking room i rent): i will update this thread as soon as i try.

Ouch, I think i'd rather use regular alkaline then and change them every 6 months.

I am quite sure that even alkaline batteries won't hold six months if rechargable batteries are emptied within six days. I've got a Logitech Ex-100 desktop and still use my rather old 800mAh rechargables and they last at least two or three weeks. Actually I cannot tell how long they really last because I don't remember when I needed to recharge last time.

The keyboard is even better. It uses the smaller AAA-sized batteries and they last for at least six months with one charge.

A cheap mouse does not necessarily mean that it costs less money if you take battery usage into account.

I don't think that clamshell case will let you plug the adapter into an A600 unless you have a 9-pin extension cord or a Joy/Mouse Switcher plugged in first.

ere... what's wrong with rechargeables :)

I have been using the same 4 AAA (two at time in the mouse) for almost four years, They cost less than .06 pence to recharge and have no sign of giving up yet... :)

and I am doing my bit to help save the planet... less waste and all that C%@P...

Cheers :drink:

Hi.

I have just tried the USB adapter on my good old A600 and it does not fit the port.

By the way, i have dig out an old Mroocheck that should work with FreeWheel, but for now i prefer USB mouse than PS2.

Will this work with razer mice like deathadder or logitech mx revolution wireless? These mice need more power than usual optical mice and won't work with other ps2 mice adapters on the amiga.

I hate to necro a thread, but I ordered one of the adapters that are in the original post, and as everyone else has said, the mouse wheel doesn't work (I have one of the USB Boing Ball Mice that Amiga Kit sells).  I did pop the thing open and find a PIC16F628-20/P Microcontroller in it (At least I think that's what it was, it was rather difficult, even with a (crappy) magnifying glass to see what it was.

If this is a programmable microcontroller, is it possible to add support for the mouse wheels?

It's not terribly important to me if we could, I mostly bought this so that it'd work in games and such (the two buttons) since I have a USB card that I can switch to for full wheel support in Workbench.

What auction was this?

If it's

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amiga-USB-mouse-adapter-Brand-new-/120814385754?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item1c21193a5a

The wheel works fine, just need him to email you the drivers and follow the instructions on installing it.

It's exactly the same as his

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amiga-USB-Mouse-Adapter-PS-2-USB-Brand-New-/120777266394?pt=UK_VintageComputing_RL&hash=item1c1ee2d4da

Which I also have and wheel works fine with that once the correct drivers are installed and setup as per his instructions.

It's this one, and I'll do that!  Would be nice if he just linked to them on the auction.  Maybe I'll ask if he minds if I host them or not.  Though I'm sure it'd be preferred to just have them on aminet.

I was looking at that one too, though couldn't figure out how it'd go into an A4000D.
