Default New Commodore Computer

boy does the commodore name get around. weren't they trying to sell custom PC's a few years ago to complete with Voodoo, Alienware, etc?

looks like they are re-badging a product that might already exist. it does kind of remind me of a retro-appearance in a TI-99 color scheme.

has more of a c64 feel to me... If I didn't already have this PC, I'd consider it.

Much respect to the reborn C= for saying it. Though if I were them, I'd be preinstalling aros to troll Hyperion.

Apple OSX can be customer installed using unmodified dvd install disk (requires additional optional hardware).
I heard about that hardware, dunno if it ever got sold.

Is it me or does this new commodore have more sense than the old one? The advertsing is actually good for once.

Here's the machine that's getting rebadged. We've seen it a few times before here on AO. That trackpad looks uglier every time I see it.

EDIT: Thanks, tone007

And here's news about it. Assuming it's not a big hoax.

At least this is something in line with what the "real" Commodore might have done. Every failed Commodore incarnation since the bankrupcy has been trying to prop up the corpse to make it look like something it never was. This looks like a more sensible down-to-earth strategy.

Seems like everyone knows about Cybernet, I've removed my previous post.

Still plan on popping mine open. It looks like a 1200 (beige.)

Aww, you didn't need to do that. Redundancy is a good thing

I quite like these "zero footprint" computers, even if they've been around for years.

I like that this one even has a PCI slot which (with a right-angle adapter allows a single full-size card to be inserted with the ports accessed via that pop-off horizontal slot.

It would certainly make a nice WinUAE Amiga running XP with a Catweasel..

Just buy a Mac Mini, attached it to the back of a monitor and use a bluetooth keyboard. Way better.

Lightbulb Re: New Commodore Computer

There are only three things that would make this a way better Commodore computer.

1) A Commodore logo. Maybe it has one, but I don't see it.

2) A bootable SD Card/USB key that has a stripped Linux set up to boot as quickly as possible in as non-chatty a way possible to a C64 emulator. Obviously, you would want it to mount the internal drive so that the emulator has access to the disk images.

3) The same with Amiga Forever. Given that WinUAE is by a far margin the best version, the boot card should check to see if Windows is installed with WinUAE and boot directly into that if it is available.

If the really wanted to go the extra mile with the Commodore name, they could do a few other things that would make it pretty much perfect.

1) Include an AROS boot SD/USB.

2) Work with Jens to get a USB version of the Catweasal, or just partner and brand the KryoFlux from the SPS with a Commodore logo. Since it is already a USB drive, all they would need to do is get it into a matching case that can hold either a 3.5 or 5.25 inch floppy drive.

Imagine this machine with a matching USB 3.5" drive... By just leaving the 'KickStart' SD in the front slot, the machine boots as an ultrafast Amiga that runs all of your floppies just like the original.

I emailed Commodore Gaming to see if they knew about some furniture company selling gear under their trade mark.

Assuming it will come at a decent price, runs stable without overheating, can run something like Half-Life 2 without slow down, and is able to run Haiku and AROS...

...I'd certainly buy!

That's not even a new machine! It is called "zero footprint PC" and the reliability is not good.

It is made from a company called Cybernet.

Yes, I've also known about this Cybernet Keyboard PC for many years.
The pictures on the Commodore site are the same photos I've seen before and don't even have the logo. It's a pity they don't pre-install AROS or provide it on SD card, perhaps someone should communicate with this Commodore company about it, or a dealer could sell it with the option. What is interesting is that they mention that they can help you get MacOSX on it.....cruisin' for a bruisin' from Apple (or some notoriety).

What is a pity, is that it is not the one shown at CES a couple years back which was a far prettier keyboard, closer to a C128/A500(Amiga fantasy) than this one. I wish they had chosen that one for a Commodore PC.

(Let's see if I can find it, and post the picture as I've done before. It was red if I recall)
Edit: Found CeBIT 2007!!!!

I don't think the one they have chosen is too ugly though. With a Commodore logo on top and AROS support.....I might even have considered it if I was in the market for a PC. I might still as the higher end seems as powerful as what I have in my tower. Actually....maybe we should embrace this for official AROS support, and make this THE OFFICIAL AROS pc. IMHO some of the lack of appeal surrounding AROS is due to its lack of brand recognition....For those Amigans for which brand appeal is important, you can't do much better than Commodore branding can ya? I know it is not the same company.....but at least we can reminisce? This still runs rings around any of the PPC alternatives both present and future, in a form factor I love. I'd wait and see what the Daddy comes up with regarding an Amiga keyboard first though.
