Amiga 500 serial No. 1
« on: March 11, 2010, 05:52:16 PM »
   Hi,

I've got an Amiga 500 with serial No. 1 made in W.-Germany. Some images in my profile (album)

I've seen 3 other images of 500s with S/N:1 on the web!

- What is the secret? Is it only a silly mistake by a famous company?! or somthing else?!
- Are you the owner of an A500 Serial No. 1 ? any pictures?
- Is there a former employee of Commodore who can explain it?
- ............
- ............

Hope finaly get a logical explaination for these kind of questions.

Thank you.

A friend of mine also claimed to have an A500 with serial no. 1. Maybe it's the first one created for the country you're living in?

I've seen stories/posts about serial # 1 A500 machines before. Odd that it is only on A500 model, and only those from Germany.
Obviously I only have more questions - no answers...
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

It looks like the sticker had the 1 printed on it, like all serial numbers from that run started with a one and then had the rest printed on at assembly time.  Only the rest of the serial number was either failed to be stamped, or washed off over time.

In more modern times where manufacture is outsourced, low serial numbers are typically counterfeits run after hours at the same plants that manufacture the real thing by day.

There are several machines like yours in the world. It is not the first A500 to roll out of a factory, not even the factory it was made in.

You already got the answer on EAB..

Of course you could try and find all the people with a similar sticker in their A500s and perhaps see if the barcode sticker next to it is a running number or something.

But if your machine has a C= sticker instead of a molded C= logo in the case, or if it's got a power LED that dims instead of turning off when the filter is disabled, then .. it's just another rev6 A500 from the early 90s.

First A500's also had a Commodore logo on the left Amiga key :)

Amiga 4000 - CS MKIII
Amiga 1200 - Blizzard 1230 MKIV

There was probably a mistake when printing the stickers.
